Re-Tail is a shop in Animal Crossing: New Leaf that is operated by Reese and Cyrus. The player can sell items to Reese, and Cyrus can customize furniture items. Additionally, the player or can put items up for sale in the shop's flea market for a price of their choice to be purchased by other players or one of the town's villagers; villagers can also place items of their own for sale.
Unlike all other permanent shops in New Leaf, which are located on Main Street, Re-Tail is located in the player's town. By default the shop is open from 9 AM to 11 PM; the Early Bird ordinance makes it open three hours earlier, and the Night Owl ordinance makes it close three hours later.
Beginning in the Welcome amiibo update, the shop's carpet, the oil-stained floor, can be obtained from Cyrus's RV. The oil-stained floor also appears in Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer alongside the shop's wallpaper, the pink shanty wall.
Selling items[edit]
Reese can buy any item from the player for its full price, unlike the Nooklings, who pay 80% of the full sell price and cannot buy certain types of items. Additionally, Reese can tell the player the current turnip price, and Re-Tail is the only place where they can be sold.
Double-price items[edit]
The sign outside Re-Tail lists a different item or type of item each day that can be sold on that day for double its usual sell price. This mechanic would later return in Animal Crossing: New Horizons for Nook's Cranny.
There are eight internal groups of items that can be chosen as the double-price item. Each day, one of the groups is chosen. The chance each group has of being chosen varies based on the month:

Each group contains one or more types of items; for groups that have multiple, one is chosen and that is the item of the day that sells for double:
- Group 0
- 70% — random fruit
- 30% — random perfect fruit

Normally, one item or item type is listed each day, but through a hidden StreetPass points system, up to five can be listed. Each StreetPass any player living in the town receives gives a single point, and reaching certain point thresholds increases the number of listed items by one; the number of points for the town resets each day. Additionally, having the Bell Boom ordinance gives a permanent five points, making for a minimum of two items guaranteed regardless of StreetPass.

Flea market[edit]
There are 8 item flea-market slots in Re-Tail where the player or villagers can purchase items or list them for sale. Villagers who enter the shop can be convinced by the player to purchase an item that is for sale, and they will display any furniture items purchased in their house.
Player items[edit]
The player can list an item to be sold and set their own price. The item can be purchased by other players or by a villager; the lower the price set, the more likely a villager is to buy an item. Villagers will never buy an item if the price is 10,000 Bells or higher. Once an item is listed, its price can be changed, or it can be taken back. If one of the player's items are sold, the Bells earned are automatically sent to their savings account. If a villager buys a player's item while that player is in the store, they will pay directly.
Villager items[edit]
Villagers can also list items to be sold at the flea market, which can be bought by the player. Below is how the game determines what item a villager will list at the flea market:
- If the villager is smug, normal, snooty, or big sister:
- If they have at least eight eligible items in their house (see item restrictions):
- 100% — an eligible furniture item from their house
- If they do not have at least eight eligible items in their house:
- 100% — a random furniture item from the town's common group
- If they have at least eight eligible items in their house (see item restrictions):
- 95% — an eligible furniture item from their house
- 5% — a cardboard bed, cardboard chair, cardboard closet, cardboard sofa, cardboard table, or any item from the Sloppy Series
- If they do not have at least eight eligible items in their house:
- 66.5% — a random furniture item from the town's common group
- 33.5% — a cardboard bed, cardboard chair, cardboard closet, cardboard sofa, cardboard table, or any item from the Sloppy Series
The flea market is the only way to obtain the cardboard bed, cardboard chair, cardboard closet, cardboard sofa, cardboard table, and items from the Sloppy Series. Villagers will sell the item they put up for between 50% and 90% of its catalog price, in increments of 10%.
Item restrictions[edit]
For both players and villagers, the following items cannot be listed for sale at the flea market:
- Any item that cannot be sold at Timmy and Tommy's store
- Any item that cannot be ordered from the catalog
- Mannequins (these cannot be sold to Reese or refurbished by Cyrus either)
- Any item that has a size greater than 2×2
- Any fish, bug, or sea creature
- Bells
- Any item that requires a disposal fee to be paid when sold (e.g. trash or art forgeries)
- Any furniture that is customized with a custom design that is not owned by the current player
Customizing furniture[edit]
Initially, Cyrus is asleep and cannot be spoken to. After the player has lived in town for at least seven days, sold at least 100,000 Bells-worth of items at Re-Tail, cataloged at least 100 furniture items, and cataloged at least 50 clothing items, he wakes up and allows the player to customize furniture items.
If the player speaks to Cyrus while a customizable furniture item is in their pockets, they can have it customized for 10% of its buy price. Once the player selects the body and/or pattern variation, Cyrus takes the item and after 30 minutes, the customization is completed. Additionally, if the player has an ore in their pockets while customizing a compatible item, they can choose to have the item's body variation customized based on the selected ore.
