Resident Services is a location in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, serving as the hub where the island's civic duties are conducted. The Bulletin Board and the town's Plaza are located outside. It replaces the town hall from prior games.

Initially the Resident Services consists of a small tent where Tom Nook resides with Timmy and Tommy. Tom Nook provides home upgrades and hosts seminars on item customization. Timmy can buy and sell items with the player. Tommy gives the player tips for living on the island. The tent consists of a Recycle Bin for unwanted items, a DIY Workbench for crafting and customizing items and the Nook Stop. A large bonfire is situated in front of the tent in a dirt plaza. Tom Nook provides the daily island broadcast when loading the town.

After the island has five residents, the Resident Services tent will upgrade into a fully constructed building resembling the town hall of previous games. The Bulletin Board will visually upgrade to a fancier design and a Flag will be hoisted outside. Isabelle will arrive on the island and begin working here, having been hired due to her extensive operational experience. Isabelle takes over hosting the island broadcast from Tom Nook and also provides civic services. A large paved plaza is installed outside of the building where events are hosted and traveling characters will periodically appear. At this point Timmy and Tommy will no longer work here, as they will open a shop in town.

During certain days in which Isabelle remains outside for events, Resident Services are open but the Civic Consultation Counter remains closed for the day, with only Construction Consultation as the only service available on the day the event takes place. Resident Services is closed during the Countdown, as the entrance is blocked by the countdown timer. Additionally, Civic Consultation Counter will be unavailable during Fireworks Show since Isabelle will be outside it.

Features[edit]

Construction Consultation Counter[edit]

  • What should I do? — tells the player what to do before K.K. Slider arrives.
  • Let's talk homes. — This option appears if the player has the Happy Home Paradise DLC and appears after building the 30th vacation home to ensure the player's option box isn't too big.
    • About my home... — lets players edit the parts of their homes that they can't edit alone. This option replaces "Let's talk homes." if the Happy Home Paradise DLC isn't installed or if the player has not built their 30th vacation home.
      • I want to expand. — provides the player options for physically expanding their house.
      • I want to customize. — offers a variety of design features that can be purchased to customize the appearance of the player's house.
      • I want to relocate. — allows the player to move their home to another location on the island.
    • A resident's home. — allows the player to decorate a villager's house. The option is available if the player has the Happy Home Paradise DLC and is unlocked after the player finishes building the 30th vacation home. The player needs to pay  9,000 Bells to decorate the villager's house.
  • Let's talk infrastructure. — provides the player options to modify the infrastructure of the island.
    • Sell some land. — allows the player to reserve some land for future villagers to move in.
    • About bridges/inclines. — provides the player options to build or demolish bridges or inclines/ramps.
      • Let's build a bridge. — allows the player to build one of eight bridges (ten if the Pro Construction License is purchased).
      • Let's make an incline. — allows the player to build one of eight inclines/ramps (ten if the Pro Construction License is purchased).
      • Demolish something.
    • I want layout changes. — allows the player to relocate other residents' homes, the shop, the museum, or the campsite, except for the airport for a fee of  10,000 Bells.

Civic Consultation Counter[edit]

  • Let's talk island evals. — the player can learn about the current image of the island.
  • Review island features. — This option appears the day after K.K. Slider arrives to ensure the player's option box isn't too big.
    • Change the island tune. — the island's tune can be edited from here.
    • Change the island flag. — the design of the island's flag can be customized.
    • Discuss ordinances. - the player can choose which ordinance fits the island. The option is available the day after K.K. Slider arrives. The player needs to pay  20,000 Bells to enact/cancel ordinances.
  • Discuss a resident. — the player can report villagers here to reset their clothing, catchphrase, or house interior (the latter option requires the Happy Home Paradise DLC and is unlocked after the player completes the 30th vacation home. Isabelle will not tell the player this feature is unlocked directly and will only tell the player in Island Life 101.)

Workbench[edit]

  • Let's craft! — allows the player to craft items from scratch using materials.
  • Customize something. — provides options to customize the visual appearance of furniture and tools.

Recycle box[edit]

Main article: Recycle box

The recycle box functions similarly to its appearance in previous games. Items will periodically be deposited in the bin for the player to take, usually after construction has been completed on the island. Unlike previous games, items cannot be disposed of in the bin. A waste bin furniture item must be used to throw away items.

Nook Stop[edit]

Main article: Nook Stop

The Nook Stop is a multi-functional machine that allows players to redeem Nook Miles for rewards, access the Nook Shopping catalog, and features an integrated Automatic Bell Dispenser. Once per day, the player is awarded with bonus daily miles for accessing the Nook Stop.
