{{Infobox Geography
The Waterfall is where the water falls from the northern cliff. In PG and CF, it is possible to have another waterfall elsewhere in your town. It will appear when the the river meets the cliff in the center of town. The north waterfall is accompanied by the waterfall pond. You cannot fish in the waterfall, but the waterfall pond is the only place that you can catch a char. In WW, there is sometimes a small rock in the center of the waterfall. It does not serve any purpose and is only there for decoration. It was removed in CF.

In the first-generation games
The player can throw the fishing rod from the northern hill near the waterfall. This will cause the bait to be on the lower part of the river. Fish can even be caught like this. If a fish is biting the bait near the waterfall, when it gets close to it the fish will simply swim away.

A waterfall in Animal Crossing: City Folk
Type Water
Generation probability Always

A waterfall is a part of a river in the Animal Crossing series. Waterfalls appear either when a river spans multiple layers of a town or on the town's cliffside border where the river begins. The pool of water at the bottom of a waterfall is considered a separate body of water from the river for the purpose of fishing, having different spawn rates and some exclusive fish, particularly the char.

Appearances[edit]

In the first-generation games[edit]

A waterfall in Doubutsu no Mori e+

In every first-generation Animal Crossing game, waterfalls appear where the river flows between layers of the town. The large char can only be found at the waterfall; it can spawn at any place downstream of the waterfall in that acre. A rainbow can appear above the waterfall on clear mornings. For a rainbow to appear, rain or snow must have fallen on the previous day.

In Doubutsu no Mori, the large char is the only fish that can spawn at the waterfall, thus having a spawn rate of 100%. In Doubutsu no Mori+, Animal Crossing, and Doubutsu no Mori e+, in addition to the large char, 26 other river fish can spawn at the waterfall alongside it from March to November, dropping the large char's spawn rate to between 8.33% and 11.11%.

In Wild World[edit]

A waterfall in Animal Crossing: Wild World

In Animal Crossing: Wild World, a waterfall appears on the northern cliffside border of the town. Sometimes a rock can appear in the middle of the waterfall. Like in previous games, the char can only be found at the waterfall.

In City Folk[edit]

In Animal Crossing: City Folk, waterfalls appear on the northern cliffside border of the town and where the river flows between layers of the town. Like in previous games, the char can only be found at the waterfall.

In New Leaf[edit]

In Animal Crossing: New Leaf, waterfalls appear on the eastern or western cliffside border of town and where the river meets the sea. However, only the upstream waterfall counts as one for the purpose of fish spawns, as the downstream waterfall leads directly into the sea. Like in previous games, the char can only be found at the waterfall.

In New Horizons[edit]

In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, due to the Island Designer NookPhone app, waterfalls can be created by the player. Unlike previous games, waterfall-exclusive fish spawn at the top of the waterfall (referred to as the "River (clifftop)" in the Critterpedia) rather than the bottom. In addition to all regular river fish, there are four fish that can only spawn at the river clifftop: the char, cherry salmon, golden trout, and stringfish.

Waterfall fish[edit]

The following fish can only be found at the waterfall:
