Timothy Nook and Thomas Nook, often known simply as Timmy and Tommy, and collectively known as the Nooklings or T&T, are twin raccoons[nb 4] in the Animal Crossing series who are apprentices of Tom Nook. Their English names may be a reference to the film The Sandlot, which also features a pair of brothers named Timmy and Tommy who repeat each other's sentences. In games prior to Animal Crossing: New Leaf, the two work on the second floor of Nookington's, and beginning in New Leaf they operate their own store.
Which of the two twins is the older brother is inconsistent; the B03 Timmy & Tommy e-Reader card and the Tommy & Timmy Nook trophy in Super Smash Bros. Brawl state that Tommy is older, while dialog in Animal Crossing Plaza, the description of the twins' RV in Animal Crossing: New Leaf - Welcome amiibo, and their description on Play Nintendo state that Timmy is older.
Characteristics[edit]
Appearance[edit]
Timmy and Tommy are similar in appearance to Tom Nook, and they are visually indistinguishable from one another. According to Tom Nook in Wild World, Tommy has a mole on his left wrist, while Timmy has a mole on his right wrist, although he is not sure if it is the other way around.
Clothing[edit]
The Nooklings' outfits change based on which store they are in, much like Tom Nook. In New Horizons prior to the construction of Nook's Cranny, Timmy and Tommy wear the green Nook Inc. aloha shirt in spring and summer, and the Nook Inc. blouson in winter. Both almost always wear the same outfit, with the only exception being their pajamas in Doubutsu no Mori e+, Happy Home Designer, and amiibo Festival; Timmy wears blue, while Tommy wears green. In Welcome amiibo, Timmy wears green pajamas instead of blue ones while inside his RV at the campground.
Personality[edit]
Timmy and Tommy attempt to speak in unison, but one always lags behind the other, causing one to repeat the last part of the other's dialogue. The exception to this is in New Leaf; in this game, since the Nooklings no longer work together, they simply make short remarks afterward, appearing in the dialogue box as smaller text and playing a quieter talking sound.
According to Tom Nook in Wild World, the Nooklings are mischievous, eating his after-work snack honey and staying out of trouble by saying they only did it because they aspire to be like him. Nook also reveals that the two come to him individually for their paychecks, which he believes is them "testing" him to see if he can tell them apart.
Relationships[edit]
Tom Nook[edit]
Despite the Nooklings' strong resemblance to Tom Nook, the exact nature of their relationship with him is unclear. Timmy's Animal Crossing e-Reader card implies that the Nooklings are part of Tom Nook's family, but in Wild World Nook states that he is not related to them and they are simply his employees; he notes that the Nooklings refer to him by his last name, which would be unusual if they were related to him, and is consistent throughout the series. This is also supported by the Nooklings' character bio on the official Japanese City Folk website.[1] Nook also states in Wild World that he thinks of himself as a mentor to the Nooklings.
Despite their strong relationship, Tom Nook can easily mistake either Timmy for Tommy and vice versa due to their similar appearance. In Wild World, he mentions that the brothers come to him individually for their paychecks to take advantage of his difficulty telling them apart, and in a NookTails comic, he gives them the wrong certifications.[2]
Appearances[edit]
In Animal Crossing[edit]
In all versions of the first-generation games, Timmy and Tommy operate the second floor of Nookington's, offering the same functions as Tom Nook. In Doubutsu no Mori e+, if the player uses a shovel or axe to enter Nookington's after hours they will have droopy eyelids and wear pajamas.
In Wild World and City Folk[edit]
In Animal Crossing: Wild World and Animal Crossing: City Folk, like in Animal Crossing, Timmy and Tommy appear on the second floor of Nookington's.
In New Leaf[edit]
In Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Timmy and Tommy now run their own store. In all incarnations of the store except T&T Emporium, only one of the Nooklings works at a time. At the Nookling Junction, Timmy works on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, and Tommy works on Sundays, Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays; at T&T Mart, Timmy works from 7 PM to 5 AM and Tommy works from 6 AM to 7 PM; and at Super T&T and T.I.Y., Timmy works from Friday to Sunday and Tommy works from Monday to Thursday. At T&T Emporium, Tommy works on the first floor and Timmy works on the second floor.
The first time the player visits Re-Tail, Timmy sells an item to Reese. Once their store upgrades to T&T Emporium, Timmy and Tommy begin to sign letters with their full names: Timothy and Thomas.
In New Horizons[edit]
In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Timmy and Tommy operate the Nook Inc. development venture along with Tom Nook, and they guide the player through picking their initial appearance, name, and island layout. Prior to the construction of Nook's Cranny, Timmy sells and buys items in the Resident Services tent while Tommy wanders the island carrying a flag during the day and offers advice to the player when spoken to.
The day after the player pays off their first home loan, Timmy tells them about his plan to build a store, and he gives them a list of materials to bring him. Once the store is built, Timmy and Tommy start working there.
Prior to its removal in version 2.0, when the player scans Timmy or Tommy's amiibo and tries to invite them, they will say:
Hello, this is Timmy. Ooooh, Player! How can I help you?
What? I should go camping?! Well, I appreciate you wanting me to take a break, but I'm just too busy to go.
Thank you for suggesting it, though. Hope to see you in the shop soon!
Tommy here! Oh, hi, Player! How can I help?
Ohhhh, a visit to the campsite would be so much fun!
But I'm super busy, so I don't think I can go...
Thanks for the idea, though! I really do appreciate it!
In amiibo Festival[edit]
Timmy and Tommy appear as a playable character in the Board Game mode of Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival.
In Pocket Camp[edit]
In Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, Timmy and Tommy operate the Nookling Global pop-up shop in the Market Place. They sell furniture items that are not available through crafting, and three items are on sale at a time. Tommy appears on the left side of the shop and allows the player to purchase Fortune Cookies or trade stamps. He also approaches the player when they enter the Market Place if a new Fortune Cookie is in stock. Timmy appears on the right side of the shop and allows the player to sell items.
In Gekijōban Doubutsu no Mori[edit]
Timmy and Tommy make a cameo in 🎬 Gekijōban Doubutsu no Mori, operating two stalls at the Fireworks Festival.

In Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U[edit]
In Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U, Timmy and Tommy appear in Villager's Final Smash, Dream Home, and as a trophy. While the trophy designs and descriptions are the same for both of the versions, the player must complete a certain challenge in both the 3DS and Wii U version.
Description | NTSC-U: These twin brothers operate the Nookling stores. Thanks to Tom Nook's teachings, they are just as talented as he is and run Nookling Junction with such success that it can expand several times. Despite their success, they never forget the core value of good customer service. PAL: These twin brothers start off with the little shop Nookling Junction, but they seem to have learned a little something from Tom Nook, and it doesn't take long before the T&T Emporium is open for business! (So fancy.) But no matter how big and impressive their shops get, they've still got a lot to learn... | |

Trivia[edit]
- In Animal Crossing: City Folk, if the player is in the second floor of Nookington's at closing time, Timmy and Tommy will tell them that they must go to bed.
- In Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Timmy and Tommy state that they do not offer a point system in their store. This is most likely a reference to the Tom Nook Point System in Wild World and City Folk.
- Timmy's Series 1 amiibo card (008) erroneously used Tommy's French name (Mélo) instead of Méli, causing later versions to be printed with the correct name and a small star in the bottom right.
- Timmy and Tommy share their birthday with Zell.
