Lloid (known as the Gyroid Assistant or simply Gyroid in Animal Crossing)[nb 5] is a Gyroid in the Animal Crossing series introduced in Doubutsu no Mori. His name may be a play on the given name Lloyd and Gyroid.

Appearances[edit]

In Animal Crossing[edit]

In Animal Crossing, a Gyroid appears outside of each player's house, and when spoken to, allows the player to save the game, store items, change the design on the house's door, or set a message for players visiting from another town. When storing an item, players can set it as display only, for sale for up to 99,999 Bells, or free to take for other players. If a message is set, it will be displayed to other players upon speaking to the Gyroid. In Doubutsu no Mori e+, the player can set a message to appear at a certain time of the day.

In City Folk[edit]

Lloid appears in Animal Crossing: City Folk in the auction house, located to the right of GracieGrace in the city. He allows the player to bid, deposit an item for bidding. He is also an alternative to storage space for those who do not have a storage unit called the checkroom; the checkroom, however, is accessible from a storage unit and vice-versa. Lloid allows the player to inquire about displays, bids, and the checkroom. One weekend he accepts displays to add, and on the next weekend he allows the player to bid on items. This feature is very similar to the "storage" feature of the original Gyroid in Animal Crossing. Displays were able to be added on the auction house by a registered friend over Wi-Fi (from their town).

In New Leaf[edit]

Lloid reappears in Animal Crossing: New Leaf with a new function, and now serves at the construction site of a public works project, where he takes donations on the project. He also appears on Tortimer Island where he rents tools for the player to use. Lloid also appears when the player enters a dream, where he also gives free tools for the player to use.

In New Horizons[edit]

In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Lloid appears on the island to collect donations whenever the player places a bridge or incline construction kit. After the funding goal is completed, Lloid will remain until the item is built the next day.

Following the 2.0 update, several other gyroids appear on Harv's Island, who Harvey describes as Lloid's friends. These gyroids are also named Lloid, with the only visual differences between them and the original being the mustaches and headbands they wear, which resemble Harvey. They collect donations for the various vendors who set up shop in the newly added plaza.

In Pocket Camp[edit]

In Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, Lloid is the host and owner of Shovelstrike Quarry, a minigame that allows players to gain extra craft materials by agreeing to work for him. He also takes care of the player's garden on the campsite, teaching the player how to plant seeds, pollinate flowers and catch bugs that grow on the plants. He also sells seeds to the player or allows them to trade flowers for items.

Other appearances[edit]

In Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U[edit]

Lloid appears in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U where he is used as the Villager's side special move, Lloid Rocket. He is also a collectible trophy.

    Trivia[edit]

    • In Animal Crossing, if the player uses glitches to warp to a test map, a Gyroid with corrupted textures can be seen. If the player attempts to talks to it, it will say nothing. In the equivalent test map in Doubutsu no Mori's data, this Gyroid has intact textures and dialogue, the latter of which serves as a debug menu.[1]
    • Lloid appears as a Token in the 2010 edition of Nintendo Monopoly, albeit under his former name of Gyroid.
    • Lloid shares his birthday with Chrissy.
