The lantern is a miscellaneous furniture item in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. As a miscellaneous item, it can be placed on either the ground or on the surfaces of tables and other similar furniture items that have surfaces for items. The player can interact with this item to turn its lighting effect on or off. As an outdoor item, it will provide an additional 0.5 development points towards the island rating.

The lantern is one of the default items in the player's tent, alongside the portable radio. The item's color can be customized by Cyrus at Harv's Island for 1,000 Bells.

This item appears as a furniture item in the homes of Camofrog, Grizzly, Mac, Murphy, Prince, Rex, Ricky, Rolf, and Spork. As a result, this item has a chance to be purchasable by the player if they were invited by any of the preceding villagers. It also appears in the two starting villagers' tents (and may carry over to their initial houses), and in the campsite when occupied.

In Happy Home Paradise, this item is unlocked for use in designing when doing a vacation home request for Beau, Boyd, Camofrog, Dom, Erik, Gonzo, Hamphrey, Leopold, Louie, Mac, Nana, Patty, Poncho, Rex, Rizzo, Rolf, Savannah, Sly, Spork, Static, Stu, T-Bone, Tipper, Tucker, Vic, Vladimir, and Yuka.
