Island

From Nookipedia, the Animal Crossing wiki
Did you mean the island that forms when a town has a river that splits?

The Island refers to two separate locations in the Animal Crossing series. An island first appears in Template:AF+ and its ports Animal Crossing and Template:AFe+. It is a small island inhabited by a single resident, and also contains an empty bungalow which can be used by the player. An unrelated island appears in Animal Crossing: New Leaf as a tourist destination. In all its appearances, the island is accessed via a trip on Kapp'n's boat. The island is also implied to be located far to the south of the town as the season is always summer, regardless of the town's weather.

Animal Island

The island in Animal Crossing, also known as Animal Island, is initially unnamed and the player is free to name it themselves. It can be accessed by talking to Kapp'n at the town's dock, who will offer a boat ride to the island. The weather is always summer on the island, regardless of the main town's weather. Summer-season fish and insects are always available on the island. The player can also tan when outside in the sunny weather, however overexposure to the sun can cause a sunburn. Sunburns can be prevented if an umbrella is equipped.

In Dōbutsu no Mori + and Animal Crossing, a Game Boy Advance must be connected via a Nintendo GameCube Game Boy Advance Cable in order for Kapp'n to appear. In Dōbutsu no Mori e+, each player will instead receive their own island once they repay their entire mortgage to Tom Nook.

Upon the first visit, the island's layout will be generated and a single island villager will be spawned, who will be one of several characters exclusive to the island. The island contains two bungalows, one belonging to the Islander, and the larger bungalow serving as a shared house for all the town's players (and can be customized in the same way). As there is no gyroid outside the bungalow, it is not possible to save on the island. A flagpole is located near the dock, and the flag can be customized with a design by interacting with it. The island's exterior contains multiple flowers and coconut trees, and shells will commonly appear along the beach.

In Dōbutsu no Mori e+ no islander will be present unless a character e-card is scanned using the e-Reader, at which point they will wash up on the island's beach in a similar fashion to Gulliver. The Islander will often request for items from the mainland, such as clothing and furniture for their bungalow.

The player can leave the island and return to the mainland by speaking to Kapp'n, who will ask if the island should be saved to the Game Boy Advance. Once the island is loaded onto the Game Boy Advance, the player can interact with the villager on the island, helping them catch fish, eat fruits or coconuts left on the ground, or catch flying presents. Any changes made to the island on the Game Boy Advance can be uploaded to the Nintendo GameCube the next time island is visited. This can be a useful tactic for making Bells, as the island villagers can drop slowly increasing amounts of Bells every time they are interacted. The NES games Wario's Woods and Baseball are only obtainable through this feature.

Islanders

Main article: Islander

Each island will have one islander. In Template:AF+ and Animal Crossing, it can be one of 18. In Template:AFe+, 18 new islanders were added, making a total of 36 available.

Tortimer Island

The dock from which Kapp'n will take the player to the island from.

The island returns in Animal Crossing: New Leaf as Tortimer Island (リゾートアイランド Resort Island), and can be accessed from the dock after certain conditions have been met. Kapp'n can take up to four players to the island on his motorboat for 1000 Bells, and the location is accessible to Wi-Fi visitors. No items can be taken to Tortimer Island, and all items in every players' pockets will kept in storage until they return. It is not possible to save the game while on the island.

Upon arrival, the player will enter the tour office, run by Kapp'n's famliy, Leilani, Grams and Leila. The shack

contains a box, which can store up to 40 items. When leaving the island, the contents of the box will be transferred to a similar box on the town's dock, and is the only way to bring items back from the island. An ABD is also present, although bells are generally not used on the island.

Leilani handles Tours, which are minigames hosted by Tortimer himself for up to four players, and take place in various other towns and on surrounding islands. Medals are awarded based on every player's performance during the Tour, and are used as currency on Tortimer Island. Tours can be played with friends who are on the island, or with random players via online matchmaking. Any items in any player's pocket when beginning a tour will be automatically sold to Leila, with proceeds deposited into the player's personal savings account.

"Break Out! Southern Labyrinth Tour" is a mini game that 4 players can co-operatively play. The aim is to collect 5 specific fruit.

Grams operates the island's shop, selling exclusive souvenirs, tools, clothes and furniture which can only be purchased with medals. Leila will purchase insects, fish and seafood, but only at 5% of the item's normal value.

As with the island in Animal Crossing, it is always summer on Tortimer Island, with summer fish and insects always available along with several unique species. The exterior of the island contains several trees, bearing exotic fruits that cannot be found on the mainland, and flowers and bushes. Lloid is located outside the shack, and will rent out tools and wet suits for use on the island. A beach surrounds the island, and players wearing the wet suit can swim in the water and dive for seafood.
