Appearances | Animal Crossing: City Folk |
The City is a location in the Animal Crossing series first mentioned in Animal Crossing: Wild World. However, it is not accessible until Animal Crossing: City Folk. It is not specified if the cities spoken of are the same, but it would appear logical for them to be so. The city can be seen in an Animal Crossing stage in the upcoming game Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS/Wii U.
In Wild World
The city is mentioned by many characters in Wild World;
- Tom Nook - He speaks of his unsuccessful career in the city and his return to the player's town.
- Blathers - Blathers was brought up in the city, but moved to the countryside to curate the Museum after completing part of his degree.
- Gracie - She frequently talks of the comparative lack of style in the country compared to the city.
- Brewster - Brewster used to own an unsuccessful coffee shop in the city, before meeting Blathers and being invited to the museum.
- Harriet - In Animal Crossing: Wild World, Harriet states "I've got to remember I don't own a salon in the city anymore."
- Sable - Sometimes she will talk of her friendship with Tom Nook, long ago when they were growing up together. According to her, Tom Nook's dream was to have a big shop in the city.
Cranky villagers will sometimes ask the player if they were brought up in the city, while it would appear that the player moved from the suburbs of a city, as hinted by their mother's letters.
In City Folk
The city in City Folk is accessible by bus from town, and features many shops and buildings. It also hosts events and is home to various citizens. Characters such as Crazy Redd, Katrina, and Dr. Shrunk all have their own buildings, and they no longer visit the player's town. Villagers will wander around the city. On a stoop on the right side of the city, there is a skunk named Kicks that will shine the player's shoes for 500 Bells. In some occasions, the first shoe shining is free. There is access to Resetti's surveillance center in the right side of the city. On sunny days, a sea lion named Phineas will occasionally appear next to the fountain and give the player unique items such as pinwheels and balloons. There is also an Automatic Bell Dispenser on the left side, below the Marquee, which functions exactly the same as the one in the player's town.
Crazy Redd's
Crazy Redd's, a black market owned by Redd, is a small store on the edge of the city. An invitation is needed for entry. To get the invitation, the player must talk to other villagers and they will ask them if they want an invitation to get into the store. When they get one, and after they have paid the fee of 3,000 bells, rare items and paintings are purchasable. Sometimes the paintings are forged, but because it is the only way to gain them for the museum, it is worth it to buy every single painting for sale, for the sake of completing the museum.
The Marquee
The Marquee is the theater in the city, where the usual performer is Dr. Shrunk, while rarely Frillard will appear. It is possible for the player to learn up to four emotions here.
The Happy Room Academy
The Happy Room Academy, or the HRA, is the headquarters where Lyle works. It is here that a model room for decorating is shown. Players may also converse with Lyle to check their scores, have the current model room explained or have the mailing features turned on or off.
GracieGrace
GracieGrace is a shop that sells highly priced furniture, clothes and accessories. Labelle is the clerk, but occasionally the owner, Gracie will appear.
The Auction House
The Auction House is a building run by Lloid, the gyroid. Here, items can be displayed and bid on by the player and their friends via Wi-Fi.
Shampoodle
Shampoodle is the city's salon, where Harriet can change the player's hair style or give the player a Mii Mask.
Fortune Shop
The Fortune Shop is a place to get fortunes and charms, the latter of which only have an effect on Wi-Fi visitors. It is run by Katrina.
City Plaza
The City Plaza is where Phineas gives out balloons and potential villagers roam around. It also serves as a 'hub' of sorts and acts as the gateway to many of the City's stores and attractions, such as Shampoodle and GracieGrace.
Bus Stop
The Bus Stop to return back to the player's town, between two tunnels.
Other Appearances

Town & City
Description | Get a bird's-eye view of the town and city from Animal Crossing: City Folk as you fight on a platform overhead. Your Wii U console's clock dictates the time of day and which animals and places appear. Don't get too distracted by all that, though, because the platform itself is pretty simple-perfect for a battle of skill! | |
