The Autumn Moon (known as the Harvest Moon Festival prior to Animal Crossing: City Folk) is an event in the Animal Crossing series that occurs in either September or October. It is a celebration of the Mid-Autumn Festival, known in Japan as Tsukimi and Korea as Chuseok.
The date of this event varies each year, as it occurs on the date of the full moon closest to the September Equinox.
Appearances[edit]
In Doubutsu no Mori[edit]
In Doubutsu no Mori, during the festival the moon's reflection can be seen in the lake from 6 PM to 9 PM, while villagers stand and watch. In Japanese the holiday is called 中秋の名月 (Chushu no Meigetsu), meaning "mid-autumn full moon."
In Doubutsu no Mori+[edit]
In Doubutsu no Mori+, the moon viewing remains the same, but Tortimer will also appear by the lake to give the player a Tsukimi dango.
In Animal Crossing and Doubutsu no Mori e+[edit]
In Animal Crossing and Doubutsu no Mori e+, Tortimer will give the player a moon if spoken to. This was moved from the similar Night of the Thirteenth Moon festival, which was effectively replaced by the meteor shower.
In City Folk[edit]
In Animal Crossing: City Folk, the Autumn Moon festival varies depending on the player's (or current host's) region. In the North American and European versions of the game, it is referred to as the Autumn Moon, while in the Japanese version, the event is referred to as Tsukimi (お月見 Otsukimi?).
Tortimer can be seen near the town hall from 6 AM to 12 AM. He will give the player a gift that is different for each region.
In New Leaf[edit]
In Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Isabelle is present in the plaza from 6 AM to 12 AM, and she will give the player a gift that is different for each region. The standee in the plaza is also different between regions. In Japanese versions, it is a table with dango on that is being overlooked by a mountain and a moon. In the North American version, it's a scarecrow in a farm field overlooking the Autumn Moon.
In the Japanese version, the event is referred to as Tsukimi (お月見 Otsukimi?), while the Korean version refers to it as Chuseok (추석, Chuseok).
In New Horizons[edit]
While the Autumn Moon does not appear in Animal Crossing: New Horizons as a standard event, it appears as a Nook Shopping seasonal event from September 12 to September 21[nb 5] as Moon-Viewing Day in which the player can purchase the dango, the moon cakes, and the moon rug from Nook Shopping.[nb 6]
