Ostriches are a species of bird villager in the Animal Crossing series. They are mainly differentiated from the generic bird villagers by their prominent necks and fan-like tail feathers. Not all villagers in this category necessarily resemble ostriches; villagers in this category can represent peafowl, cranes, pheasants, flamingos, and storks. The species contains villagers based on many other birds that are larger than typical passerines.
There are twelve ostriches so far, eight of which are female, and only four of which are male. Of the ostrich villagers, three are snooty, two are normal, two are peppy, one is lazy, two are jock, one is smug and one is big sister. There are currently no cranky ostriches. Queenie is the only ostrich to appear in all games in the Animal Crossing series, Nindori is the only ostrich to not appear in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Additionally, Phil is the only ostrich who does not appear in Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp.
In Animal Crossing and Animal Crossing: Wild World, ostrich villagers cannot be one of the starting villagers in the player's town.
