Dogs are a species in the Animal Crossing series who appear both as villagers and as special characters. In the real world, dogs are a domesticated animal that are commonly kept as house pets. They share this trait with the cats. The dog villagers appear to be simply generic dogs with floppy ears, while dog special characters have appearances based on a specific breed (Isabelle and Digby are Shih Tzu dogs, Booker is a Bulldog, etc.).
Twenty dog villagers have appeared in the series so far, of which one is an islander, along with eight dog special characters; this makes dogs the species with the most special characters. Out of the dog villagers, twelve are male and eight are female, making it a predominantly male species. Of these, seven are lazy, three are normal, three are peppy, two are jock, two are cranky, one is smug, one is snooty, and one is big sister.
Bow, Masa, and Megumi are the only dog villagers who have not reappeared since Doubutsu no Mori e+. All of the dogs who appear in New Horizons also appear in Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp.
Villagers[edit]
Special characters[edit]
Related canine species[edit]
- Wolf
- Raccoon — while raccoons are procyonids and not canines, the Japanese and Korean versions refer to them as raccoon dogs, which are canines.
- Fox
Trivia[edit]
- Of the four canid species in the games, the dog is the only one to be comprised of both villagers and special characters; the wolves are all villagers, while the raccoons (referred to as "raccoon dog" in Japan) and the only fox are special characters.
