In CF, Serena appears in the town fountain if the player throws an axe into it; this is done by swinging the Wii Remote or pressing while holding an axe. Serena will ask the player a series of questions, including, but not limited to, "Which axe did you throw?", "How do I look today?", "Did I seem goddessy?", and "Do you really not like me?", before asking them to choose her left or right hand. After the player answers the questions, Serena will either give them a silver axe, give a golden axe, return the standard axe, or give nothing, keeping the standard axe. The answers the player gives to her questions have no effect on the outcome. Sometimes, Serena won't ask any questions and will keep the axe the player threw.

This interaction is a reference to the fable The Honest Woodcutter, where a man drops his axe into a river and a god appears, asking him if he dropped a golden or silver axe. The man answers neither, and impressed by his honesty, the god gives him all three axes.

Serena also appears as a statue on the fountain in the city.
Serena is a solid white chihuahua with a white toga. She has large beady eyes and wears golden jewelery. On her head, she wears a veil. She wears gold earrings. She also has large pointed ears in front. She is oftentimes mistaken for an angel.

In short
To see Serena, you must first unlock the fountain by donating 500,000 Bells (in addition to the 200,000 Bells that are needed for the extra bridge) to the Town Fund. Talk to Pelly to donate the bells. Then after the fountain is built, you must  throw an axe into the fountain. To throw the axe, make a horizontal swipe across in front of you. Doing so will land the axe into the middle of the fountain. It should be noted that the day the fountain is opened Tortimer will be in the way so you cannot throw an axe into the fountain. Serena may come out and ask any combination of 3 different questions, which will lead to further questions. Usually she will appear dissapointed after you throw the axe, after questioning you she may say she will give you a gold axe and give nothing in return or she could simply take your axe and disappear.
+
Although Serena does not appear in NL, peppy villagers may reference her and short's method of obtaining the silver axe and golden axe in conversation. They will ask, "if you dropped an axe in a magic pool, <Player>...and a goddess appeared and she said she'd transform it for you, which one would you choose?"
There is a statue of her in the center of the fountain in the City.

Serena is very unpredictable and often gets mad when axes are thrown at her. Sometimes, she asks if she appears "goddess-y" and asks for your opinion. If you sweet talk Serena enough, she just might give you the axe. However, you may get the axe through telling the truth.

Sometimes, Serena has a sad face and asks "Why are you throwing axes at me? Do you hate me?". If you say yes, she might keep your axe or she might give you a gold axe so that you would like her. If you say no, she might get mad at you and throw the axe, tearing her favorite toga.

There are many other things that she may ask you every time you throw the axe in the fountain and she is very unpredictable and may give you a gold/silver axe, she may give your axe back, or she can keep your axe. No matter what gender you are Serena will give you either axe if she wants too. Serena also is a chronic liar saying that she will give you a gold or silver axe but never seem to actually give it. Serena has a lot of axes at times, other times, she has "run out" of gold/silver axes.

She also asks "Did you throw in a golden axe, or maybe it was a silver axe?", referencing an old story where a man drops his axe into a river and a spirit and in other stories a mermaid asks the same thing (The man told the truth and got both, but since Serena is how she is, it might not be the same if you do).

As a final question, Serena will sometimes ask the player if they want a "present". If the player says yes, Serena will ask them to pick a hand (saying no will result in her taking your axe). If the player says Right, Serena may take your axe, return it or give you a Gold/Silver one. Picking Left has the same function, but Serena might only give you a Silver Axe.

Serena is a goddess dog in Animal Crossing: City Folk who appears in the town's fountain. She is the source of both silver and golden axes.

Characteristics[edit]

Appearance[edit]

Serena is a white Chihuahua with a white dress. She has large beady eyes and wears golden jewelry. On her head, she wears a veil, and also has large pointed ears in front.

Personality[edit]

In contrast to her role as a deity, Serena is immature; her speech and mannerisms are reminiscent of a stereotypical valley girl. She expresses dismay at people throwing axes at her. Her mood is highly unpredictable, though she can sometimes be kind to the player. If the player throws axes at her and she asks the player a series of questions, she can give the player a silver or golden axe once the player answers her questions; however, she usually returns the axe to the player or gives the player nothing.

Appearances[edit]

In City Folk[edit]

Serena in the fountain in Animal Crossing: City Folk.

In Animal Crossing: City Folk, Serena appears in the town fountain if the player throws an axe into it; this is done by swinging the Wii Remote or pressing Wii A Button.svg while holding an axe.

In New Leaf[edit]

Although Serena does not appear in Animal Crossing: New Leaf, peppy villagers may reference her and City Folk's method of obtaining the silver axe and golden axe in conversation. They will ask, "if you dropped an axe in a magic pool, <Player>...and a goddess appeared and she said she'd transform it for you, which one would you choose?"

Other appearances[edit]

In Super Smash Bros. for Wii U[edit]

In Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, Serena appears as a spectator in the Town and City stage and as a collectible trophy. Her appearance in this game omits the earrings she wears in City Folk.
