Desert Island Escape is a minigame in Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival and the Welcome amiibo update of Animal Crossing: New Leaf. It involves escaping a desert island by obtaining four parts of a raft (three logs and a sail), without running out of food supplies, and in a limited number of days. How many days depends on difficulty. Monsters can fight the player.
In amiibo Festival, the minigame can be unlocked for 4 Happy Tickets after unlocking the plaza (itself unlocked after two rounds of the board game). It requires scanning three amiibo cards to play. The player will receive Happy Points as a reward on a successful play.
In Welcome amiibo, the minigame can be accessed through the Wii U console furniture item. The characters used in the game can either be residents of the player's town or scanned with amiibo cards.[nb 1] The player will receive MEOW Coupons as a reward, as well as certain exclusive items based on certain achievements (see #Prizes).
Character abilities[edit]
There are a total of 18 different special powers in Desert Island Escape that vary depending on a villager's species, or in the case of special characters, are simply dependent on the individual character. Each group also has different stats that come into play on the island:
- Movement: The number of times a character can travel to another space, usually one space each except for certain abilities.
- Hunger: The amount of rations a character consumes at the end of each day. If there is not enough food for all three characters at the end of the day, the game is failed.
- Vision: How many spaces around the character fog will be cleared from the map.
- Favorite fruit: When a villager lands on a space with this fruit, the possible amounts of food gained are higher. This does not apply to other villagers in the party.

Dexterity
|
Nimble hands enhance tool use. Can make tools in lieu of exploring. Can detect materials while exploring.
The character can choose to expend their turn creating a tool instead of moving. When an adjacent unexplored space contains a crafting material (not including medicine, logs or the sail), it will be revealed.

Fish Fetcher
|
Can catch fish without using a fishing rod! No squiddin'!
If an adjacent space has fish, the character will detect it and automatically move there without using a move. They can catch fish without a rod with the usual chances, but are guaranteed between 2 and 7 fish if they have one.

Flight
|
Able to freely fly on magnificent wings, even over mountains. But precision suffers a bit, so no landing on adjacent spaces!
The character must move two spaces in a direction, bypassing the space in between. They can pass over mountains/rocks and water.

Special characters:

Gimme! Gimme!
|
Might snack on some collected food instead of stashing it for the group. Very resilient, though—a fair trade.
When the character collects food, the chances always contain higher amounts, but sometimes the character may choose to take one ration for themselves. However, they have stronger chances against enemies, and even if bitten may not become hurt or poisoned.

Lone Wolf
|
Prefers solo activity, even when it comes to camping. Focused on finding raft materials and food. Won't rely on tools or medicines.
The character stays completely independent of the camp the entire game, remaining where they left off the next day. They will not use tools and if they come across crafting materials or medicine, they will leave it behind revealed (other characters can still pick it up). Found rations and boat parts still contribute to the group.

Stealthy Movement
|
Sensitive to enemy presence. Great at stealthy movements. With a bit of luck, can evade fights altogether.
When encountering an enemy, the villager may be able to sneak by without a fight, though the enemy will remain in the space. However, if they are spotted, the villager will be forced to face their chances fighting.

Loves being in the water and isn't great on land. Only good in shallow water.

Tunnel Digger
|
Digs tunnels in the ground and moves freely. Detects adjacent pits. May fail to reach distant dig destinations.
Each turn, the character can choose to move normally or dig once to any visible (not cloudy) land on the island. Digging will bring up a roulette wheel with decreased chances of success the farther the chosen space is. Pits in adjacent spaces are detected, though the character is not particularly adept at actually escaping them.

May explore a lot or not at all each day, depending on mood. Unpredictable but strong. Very capable when motivated.
