The clothesline can be obtained from crafting, which requires 10× tree branch. The recipe for this item can be obtained from either Tom Nook, where there is a 50% chance of being obtained if Tom Nook asks for this item during the villager house development quest, or cranky villagers. The item's drying shirt pattern can be customized either by using 2 customization kits or by Cyrus at Harv's Island for 1,700 Bells. When customizing the item's drying shirt pattern, the player can use one of Sable's patterns or their own custom designs.

This item appears as a furniture item in the homes of Amelia, Coco, Curt, Elmer, Gaston, Jacob, and Mac. As a result, this item has a chance to be purchasable by the player if they were invited by any of the preceding villagers.
