Octopuses are a species of villager in the Animal Crossing series. They are the least common species of villagers in the series, as only five have been featured in the games. They are also the only invertebrate species in the game, as they are not in the Chordata phylum like the rest of the villagers. They are easily recognized by their spherical heads, arms, and siphons which are relocated to mimic mouths. Octopuses are one of the two species that appear as both sentient villagers and also as fish, the other being frogs.

In Doubutsu no Mori and Animal Crossing, there is only a single octopus, Octavian. Another octopus, Marina, is introduced as an islander in Doubutsu no Mori e+ and appears as a regular villager from Wild World onwards. Another male octopus, Zucker, is introduced in New Leaf, and a third male octopus, Inkwell, appears in the Welcome amiibo update. A fourth male octopus, Cephalobot, was added to New Horizons. Inkwell is currently the only octopus absent from New Horizons, and all of the octopuses who do appear also appear in Pocket Camp. Additionally, Octavian is the only octopus to appear in every game so far.

Octavian is cranky, Marina is normal, Zucker is lazy, Inkwell is a jock, and Cephalobot is smug. There are currently no peppy, big sister, or snooty octopuses.

In Animal Crossing, Animal Crossing: Wild World, and Animal Crossing: City Folk, octopus villagers cannot be one of the starting villagers in the player's town.
