Horses are a species of villager in the Animal Crossing series. The primary features differentiating them from the other hooved villagers are their peanut-shaped heads and their prominent necks, along with a three-pointed mane. Most of their names and appearances relate to jockeys, racehorses, and specific breeds of horse. However, Filly appears to be a superhero and Roscoe is based on a knight chess piece, while Julian is based on a unicorn, Papi is based on an okapi (a relative of giraffes), and Savannah is based on a zebra, a non-domesticated equine species.
There are seventeen horse villagers, of which nine are female and eight are male, making it a predominantly female species. Of these, three are lazy, three are normal, three are peppy, three are smug, two are snooty, one is jock, one is cranky, and one is big sister. One of the smug horses, Ed, previously had the jock personality.
Due to Cleo and Filly returning in the Animal Crossing: New Leaf - Welcome amiibo update, the horse, along with the rabbit and the tiger, is the second villager species in which all of the villagers of that species appear in the same game together after Doubutsu no Mori e+, the first being the octopus. In Welcome amiibo, Filly can only visit a player's campground and cannot actually live in a town. All of the horses who appear in Animal Crossing: New Horizons also appear in Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp.
