Phyllis is the night clerk pelican of the Post Office (Doubutsu no Mori, Animal Crossing, Doubutsu no Mori e+, and Animal Crossing: New Leaf) or the Town Hall (Animal Crossing: Wild World and Animal Crossing: City Folk). Phyllis is the older sister of Pelly, who works during the day. When talking to the player, Phyllis will often mutter things under her breath, shown in gray subscript text in Bebebese, as she does not seem to enjoy having to work so late.
Phyllis has her own music for the town hall, starting as soon as her shift begins; it reflects Phyllis's irritated mood and snappy conversation.
Appearances
In Animal Crossing
In Animal Crossing, Phyllis works at the Post Office from 7 PM to 7 AM. She is rude to her customers, but doesn't have a very developed character.
In Wild World
Phyllis is the clerk of the Town Hall in Animal Crossing: Wild World. She takes care of the civic center and post office centers. She's still very rude, but villagers say that she is incredibly efficient at her work, despite her attitude. When asked about the environment, Phyllis gives more detailed answers than Pelly. Whereas Pelly will often tell the player to "add more green," Phyllis will specify whether the player needs to add trees or flowers. Some characters sometimes state that they see Phyllis crying in the plaza at night, which may have something to do with the complicated romance between her co-workers, Pete and Pelly.
Phyllis can sometimes be found in The Roost from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. on any day except Saturday. She states that she likes her coffee "black," or with no milk or sugar. If players save 500,000,000 Bells, they receive a picture of Phyllis with her sister, Pelly.
In order to accommodate more than one player with the introduction of the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, Phyllis and Pelly can both be found in the Town Hall when a visitor arrives - Phyllis heads the civic center.
According to a number of peppy villagers, Phyllis is very loving to her younger sister, Pelly. This can also be apparent to the player when she is spoken to in The Roost, as she will openly consider asking Pelly to take over her night shift, but then state that she "can't do that" to her, soon after, whilst bearing a remorseful expression.
In City Folk
Phyllis still works in the Town Hall in City Folk, performing much the same role as in the previous installment. As with Wild World, villagers often tell rumors that her co-worker Pete is in love with her. When the player sees him walking around town delivering his letters, he always talks about Phyllis and will begin to ask the player questions relating to Pelly and Phyllis, showing his preference for Phyllis. He even reveals that others comment that she is "frosty," "aloof," and has a "personality like sandpaper," despite his infatuation for her. Pete has been known to send mail to Phyllis, as revealed when cranky villagers talk of replacing a fellow villager's house nameplate to the name "Phyllis," only for their victim to be inundated with "creepy love letters."
She can be found in the The Roost in the museum the hour before her shift starts, 9 to 10 PM, where she will complain about her job when spoken to.
A further similarity with Wild World is Phyllis' job at the civic center; when the player connects to Wi-Fi and has visitors over.
In New Leaf
In Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Phyllis once more works at the Post Office. As in the previous games, she works in the later hours of the day, from 10 PM to 7 AM, and she retains her cranky mood, but likely for the same reason as Mr. Resetti, her crankiness has been toned down from the previous games. Phyllis can be spotted in the Roost Café very late at night. Like her personality, she likes coffee that is very bitter. She takes no sugar in her coffee and will tell Brewster to give her two cups to-go so that she can bring some home to her sister. According to Phyllis, she used to make coffee and bring it to work every day before the café was built.
In New Horizons
Phyllis was added to Animal Crossing: New Horizons in the 2.0 Free Update. Although Phyllis does not have a specific role in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, the player can invite her for coffee at The Roost via her amiibo. Phyllis's Poster can be obtained from Nook Shopping after attempting to invite her to Photopia via her amiibo.
In Gekijōban Doubutsu no Mori
As in the games, Phyllis appears very rude and grumpy to those around her, making various critical comments, such as "This is boring."
Other appearances
In Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Description | Sisters who work at the town hall, which is open 24 hours a day. The younger Pelly is at the window from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., while Phyllis has the night shift. Pelly's cheerful and polite manner makes her the model of good customer service. Phyllis, however, is snooty and treats everyone with impatience and disdain. That said, she's very efficient at her job.

Description | NTSC-U: The pelican sisters work at the Post Office. Phyllis has a pink color to her, and she handles the night shifts. Pelly is white and works during the day. Pelly has a crush on Pete the delivery boy, but Pete has feelings for Phyllis. Awkward! They won't let it distract them from their job(s), though. PAL: The pelican sisters both work at the Post Office. Phyllis (the one with all the make-up on) handles the night shifts, and Pelly takes care of things during the day. Pelly fancies the delivery boy, Pete, but he actually has feelings for Phyllis. Awkwaaarrrd! At least they never let the drama distract them from doing their job(s)!

Profile: | Phyllis isn't as mean as she seems. Sure, she tends to get pretty snappy in the wee hours of the morning, but you really can't blame her. It must get pretty lonely manning the post office all night long. |
