Donating to the museum

In New Horizons

When donating to Blathers or selecting "Tell me about this!" in New Horizons, he will provide the following information about the fish:

"The snapping turtle is a large turtle known for its crocodile-like body and long claws. No, wait—it is better known for its ferocious bite, which it can deliver with shocking speed for a turtle. NO, WAIT—it is BEST known for that time one chased me across a parking lot and I had to climb on top of a car."

When donated, it can be found in the larger pond of the fish exhibit, standing on top of a log that appears once the snapping turtle is donated.

Trivia

  • When placed down, the snapping turtle does not have any form of tank or container, simply staying in place. If interacted with, it hisses and snaps its jaws.

Real-world information

The common snapping turtle (Chelydra serpentina) is native to North America and can be found east of the Continental Divide throughout the United States and parts of Canada. It is known for being highly combative out of water, with powerful beak-like jaws that it is named for, but they are more passive in the water, preferring to hide in the mud instead.
