Tortimer Island is a stage in the Super Smash Bros. series based on the island of the same name from Animal Crossing: New Leaf. It debuted in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS. The stage's appearance is randomized each match, which affects its layout and the inclusion of some features. Mii Gunner has to be fought on this stage when unlocking them outside of World of Light in Ultimate.

It was first revealed on March 7, 2014, on the Director's Room Miiverse community, as well as on the official website for Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U.[1] Due to its randomized layout and large size, Tortimer Island is banned for competitive play in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Making it the only Animal Crossing series stage to be banned.

Layout

Tortimer Island consists of a single platform with a slightly raised grassy area in the middle and a beach along the sides; the tour office can be seen in the background alongside Grams, Leila, Leilani, or Tortimer. In Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS, the water around the island cannot be swum in, with players simply falling through it, but it is swimmable in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. On one end of the island is a pier, often in disrepair, that has a grabbable edge. Kapp'n will occasionally dock his boat, which serves as a solid platform, at the pier for a small amount of time before disembarking. In addition, a shark may sometimes linger near the island's shore, attacking players who get too close. On some variations of the stage, there is a shallow pool of water inland.

Fruit-bearing trees of various sizes that can be used as platforms may also appear on Tortimer Island. There are two types of trees: oak trees and palm trees. Oak trees only grow in the grass and function as a pair of platforms, producing apples, cherries, durians, lemons, lychees, mangos, peaches, pears, and oranges. Palm trees, on the other hand, only grow on the beach and function as a single platform, producing bananas and coconuts. Knocking the fruit to the ground allows players to interact with them. For example, every fruit besides coconuts and durians, which act as throwable items, can be used to recover health, and the five fruits considered native fruit in the Animal Crossing series rarely spawn as perfect fruit, which restore more health than their normal counterparts, as well. Occasionally, a beehive can be knocked out of an oak tree, though it is invisible to players until the oak tree holding it is struck.

Tortimer Island's Ω form in Smash 3DS consists of a completely flat platform atop a cliff whose sides extend below the blast line, with all existing stage hazards removed. In Ultimate, Tortimer Island's Ω form no longer features the platform as a cliff, instead floating in midair and resembling Final Destination. Tortimer Island's Battlefield form features three soft platforms that are made of wood and match similarly to the dock in normal forms of Tortimer Island. If hazards are off in Ultimate, fruits, beehives, sharks, and Kapp'n's boat do not appear, however the layout is still randomized.
