Copper is a dog who appears in all the Animal Crossing series games until Animal Crossing: New Horizons along with his working partner, Booker. Copper's name comes from the slang term for police officer, "copper." He strongly resembles Japan's national breed, the Akita. In all games where he appears, Copper's dedication to professionalism and his work is in sharp contrast with Booker's doddering incompetence. Copper also prides early risers and warns the player to be careful when wandering around at night.
Copper displays extreme dedication to his job, sacrificing his own desires in order to fulfill his duties.
Appearances
In Animal Crossing
In Animal Crossing, Copper works at the police station where he alerts the player of upcoming events, the location of visitors in the town, hosts morning workout regimes in the summer and gives the player's friends a map of the town. Copper also participates in the Morning Aerobics, dressing in a gymnastics uniform and leading each stretch.
In Wild World
In Wild World, Copper now works as a guardian of the Town Gate, opening or closing the gate for the player's friends to come through and play, as well as providing friend codes for players. He is on the right side of the town gate. On the left is Booker. Notably, Copper will also mock Booker behind his back in this game.
In City Folk
Copper's role in City Folk is unchanged from Wild World, continuing to act as a guardian of the Town Gate as well as providing friend codes. He also helps with the DS Suitcase.
In New Leaf
In New Leaf, Copper appears once the modern police station is completed as a result of a public works project. He maintains a lost and found and he tells players of any new presence in town, from new villagers to Crazy Redd's appearances, and to Gulliver being washed ashore.
Other appearances
In Super Smash Bros. Brawl
In Brawl, Copper can sometimes be seen in the background of the Smashville stage. Copper also appears alongside Booker as a trophy and a sticker in this game as part of the Animal Crossing series.
Description | The guards stationed at the town gate through which travelers come and go. Copper, who's on the right, is in charge of traveling via Nintendo WFC, and Booker on the left runs the lost and found. Booker's a cute fellow who's known for his indecisive manner...maybe. Copper's diligent, dedicated, and always ready to lend a helping paw.

In Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U
As mentioned before, Copper has a chance of appearing in the background of the stage Smashville, but only in the Wii U version. In the Nintendo 3DS version, he once again appears alongside Booker as a trophy.
Description | NTSC-U: In Animal Crossing: New Leaf, you decide which police officer you'll have in your town based on the type of police station you put up. Will you build the modern police station and hire the brisk, professional Copper? Or perhaps the classic police station and the quiet, nervous Booker? PAL: In Animal Crossing: New Leaf, you decide which police officer you'll have in your town based on the type of police station you put up. Will you build the modern police station and hire the brisk, professional Copper, or do you prefer the classic police station and Copper's quiet, nervous partner, Booker? It's all up to you—it's your town, after all!
