The hairstyle selection menu in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Beginning in Animal Crossing: Wild World, the player has the option to change their hairstyle and hair color. Prior to Animal Crossing: New Horizons, it is done at Harriet's barber shop, Shampoodle, and in New Horizons, it is done by the player themself. In games where visiting Shampoodle is required to change the player's hairstyle, the answers to Harriet's questions will determine which hairstyle and color is received.

Players can also wear wigs in order to access additional hairstyles. While technically considered a type of headwear, wigs will match the player's current hair color.

Appearances

In Wild World

The player's hairstyle in Animal Crossing: Wild World is determined by their answers to Kapp'n's questions at the beginning of the game and can be changed at Shampoodle for 3,000 Bells once it is opened. There are a total of sixteen hairstyles, with eight for females and eight for males. Once the player has received all hairstyles of their gender at least once, Harriet will allow them to choose hairstyles of the opposite gender.

In City Folk

Like in Wild World, the player's hairstyle in Animal Crossing: City Folk is determined by their answers to Kapp'n's questions at the beginning of the game and can be changed at Shampoodle for 3,000 Bells. There are four new hairstyles for each gender, making for a total of twelve. Once the player has had their hair styled 15 times, Harriet will allow them to choose hairstyles of the opposite gender. Additionally, bed head, a messy hairstyle that appears when the player has not played for at least 15 days, is introduced.

In New Leaf

The player's hairstyle in Animal Crossing: New Leaf is determined by their answers to Rover's questions at the beginning of the game and can be changed at Shampoodle for 3,000 Bells once it is opened. There are a total of 32 hairstyles, with 16 for females and 16 for males. Once the player has had their hair styled 15 times, Harriet will allow them to choose hairstyles of the opposite gender. Bed head returns from City Folk and acts the same.

All hairstyles from Animal Crossing: New Leaf reappear in Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer and Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp.

In New Horizons

The player's hairstyle in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is selected from a list at the beginning of the game and can be customized at any time by interacting with a mirror. Additionally, hair no longer has a gender. New hairstyles can be unlocked from packs that can be purchased from the Nook Miles Redemption: [[Item:Top 6 Stylish Hairstyles ({{{2}}})|Top 6 Stylish Hairstyles]], [[Item:Top 8 Cool Hairstyles ({{{2}}})|Top 8 Cool Hairstyles]], and [[Item:Top 8 Pop Hairstyles ({{{2}}})|Top 8 Pop Hairstyles]], as well as [[Item:Top 8 Stylish Hair Colors ({{{2}}})|Top 8 Stylish Hair Colors]] for eight additional hair colors. Bed head now requires a month of inactivity to occur, and the player automatically "fixes" it after leaving their house, reverting to their previous hairstyle.

The 1.6.0 Free Winter Update added a new hairstyle pack, [[Item:Top 6 Stylish Hairstyles ({{{2}}})|Top 6 Stylish Hairstyles]], which offers six new hairstyles, including the option to be bald for the first time. As of version 1.6.0, there are 36 hairstyles in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

In Happy Home Designer

Changing the player's hairstyle in Happy Home Designer

In Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer, the player's hairstyle can be customized at the beginning of the game. They can freely change their hair afterwards upon unlocking the Styling Machine.

In Pocket Camp

In Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, the player is able to customize their hair in the tutorial and in the Settings menu.

2. Harriet: "Do you like the sun? How does it make you feel? (if answered "Every day.") OR "I'll bet you're just the toast of every party, aren't you?" (if answered "Big nights!")
3. Harriet will ask one of the following:

"If you were rushing to the salon and someone were to call to you, what would you do?" (if first answered "Every day." and then "Warm...")

"Are clothes important to you?" (if answered "Every day." and then "Sweaty!")

"If your ideal hairstyle were a song, what kind of song would it be?" (if first answered "Big nights!" and then "Well, duh!")

"Well, will you tell me a bit about your primping routine?" (if first answered "Big nights!" and then "Unfortunately...")
