Flags appear in every main game in the Animal Crossing series (excluding the original Doubutsu no Mori), and can be altered to display a custom design. They primarily serve as an emblem representing the town, though other kinds of flags appear as well.
Appearances[edit]
In Animal Crossing and Doubutsu no Mori e+[edit]
In Animal Crossing and Doubutsu no Mori e+, a plain white flag is flown near the dock on Animal Island. The flag's design can be changed by simply interacting with the flagpole.
In Wild World[edit]
In Animal Crossing: Wild World, a flag with a turtle-shell design is flown next to the checkpoint. The design can be changed by speaking to Booker in the checkpoint and selecting the option to "Change flag." The player has the option of outright replacing the design with a new one, or swapping a custom design in exchange for the one used for the flag.
In City Folk[edit]
In Animal Crossing: City Folk, a flag with a tree design appears outside of the checkpoint and is also displayed on top of the New Year's Eve countdown board. As with Animal Crossing: Wild World, the design can be changed by speaking to Booker in the checkpoint and selecting the option to "Change flag." The player has the option of outright replacing the design with a new one, or swapping a custom design in exchange for the one used for the flag.
After the player fully pays off their mortgage, Tom Nook will gift them a personal flag outside of their house, which initially bears Tom Nook's leaf sigil in a color matching their roof paint. The flag can be changed by selecting the option from the telephone in the attic of their house.
A special flag design in the image of Tortimer's face was distributed to players.
In New Leaf[edit]
In Animal Crossing: New Leaf, the town's flag is flown outside of the town hall and on the platform of the train station. The town's flag may also appear on the large screen in Club LOL during DJ KK's weeknight sets, and in the sky as fireworks during the Fireworks Show and Countdown. The design can be changed by speaking to Isabelle in the town hall and selecting the "Town flag" option. Kapp'n's boat flies the flag of Tortimer Island, the design of which cannot be altered.
A special flag design in the image of a pine tree can be obtained from the official Japanese Nintendo Dream Town. Additionally, two of the default designs are an alternative rose flag and a stag-beetle flag.
Welcome amiibo introduces a metal flagpole furniture item which can be customised with a player-made design. It comes with two default patterns, one appearing very similar to the default town flag design, and another featuring the emblem that is depicted on MEOW Coupons.
In New Horizons[edit]
In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, the island's flag is flown outside of the Airport and depicts the Nook Inc. logo. After upgrading the Resident Services tent into a building, a flag will also be flown in the surrounding plaza. From this point the flag's design can be changed by speaking to Isabelle and selecting the "Change the island flag" option.
