The scallop is a sea creature in the Animal Crossing series that first appears in Animal Crossing: New Leaf. In previous games in the Animal Crossing series, scallops are found as shells. When the player finds a scallop in the town, Pascal may rise to the surface and ask the player if he can have it. If the player chooses to give it to him, he rewards the player themed furniture in return.

While initially absent from Animal Crossing: New Horizons, scallops were added in the 1.3.0 Free Summer Update in July 2020, where it appears all day long as a medium-sized, slow shadow year-round. If the player catches a scallop, Pascal may rise to the surface and ask the player if he can have it. If the player agrees, he will reward the player with a DIY recipe for a random item in the Mermaid Series or a pearl which can go towards crafting the Mermaid Series items and then swim off.

Donating to the museum[edit]

In New Leaf[edit]

Upon being donated to the museum, it can be found jumping around in the large tank in the first room of the sea exhibit. The exhibit says this about the scallop:

"Scallops inhabit the cool ocean bed. They swim by rapidly clapping together their shell valves. The black dots on scallops, known as wavy "strings", are actually their eyes. These eyes number over 80 but only really function as a means to sense light rather than motion. Often grilled or buttered, scallops have become a tasty seafood enjoyed all over the world."

In New Horizons[edit]

When donating to the museum, Blathers will say the following:

"Ah, the scallop! It just goes to show, you can't keep a good bivalve down. While most members of its family are known for staying put, the scallop is a nimble fellow indeed. When a hungry sea star approaches, the scallop can swim away by clap-clap-clapping its shells together! "How does a scallop know when a predator approaches?" you ask. Why, it has 200 eyes to see with! It makes one wonder what else the scallop sees with all those eyes...I fear it sees into my very soul!"

Once donated, the scallop can be found in the icy water tank, alongside the sea butterfly.

Fishing Tourney[edit]

In New Leaf[edit]

During a Fishing Tourney, when given a scallop, Chip will not score the sea creature but will say the following:

"You know, scallops make for great sashimi, or maybe tempura...or fried or sautéed... Tasty! I'm perfectly happy to just swallow them whole, of course! YUM!"
