The fishing rod is a tool item in every first-generation Animal Crossing game.
The fishing rod can be obtained from Tom Nook's store for 500 Bells. The fishing rod will not appear for sale until the player has bought or sold[nb 2] 8,000 Bells-worth of items at the store.
The fishing rod can also occasionally be found at the lost and found. In Doubutsu no Mori e+ only, Chip will give the player a free fishing rod if they do not have one in their inventory during the Fishing Tourney.
In Doubutsu no Mori, the fishing rod does not appear in the catalog.
