Friendship is a value in the Animal Crossing series that reflects how close a villager is to the player. Friendship is generally increased the more the player interacts with a villager, and having a high friendship level with a villager changes the way they interact with the player.

Determining friendship value

Katrina checking the friendship status of Pierce.

Since version 2.0, the player can determine where their friendship level is with a specific villager by consulting Katrina for 1,000 Bells. The player is then able to pay Katrina 10,000 Bells while the friendship value with the selected villager is between 0 and 149 to grant a small boost of two friendship points. The dialogue that is presented determines where the player is with a specific villager.[2]
