Franklin (フランクリン, Furankuren) the turkey appears during the Harvest Festival between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m. He realizes he is in trouble when Tortimer, the mayor, invites him for dinner, or rather, to be dinner. During this time, Franklin hides behind obstacles such as trees, buildings and signs, and waits for the player to bring him pieces of silverware from the banquet. Franklin believes that if the player pilfers the utensils, the villagers will be unable to serve him. For each piece brought to him, the player will receive one piece of the Harvest Series, including the wallpaper/carpet.
If the player talks to the villagers during the Harvest Festival, they talk about where they've sighted Franklin. The player can also get a letter and a number clue each time the player talks to them.
Franklin is unusual among the Animal Crossing series residents and visitors in that he is static; unlike the other visitors, such as Saharah or Joan, he does not walk around the town. Instead, Franklin appears in his hiding place and disappears soon after the player moves the camera out of view.
While in one hiding place, Franklin will accept only one 'knife and fork' set, so if players wish to give him another, they must move from the hiding place until Franklin disappears and search for him again.
Trivia
- If the player cuts down the tree Franklin is hiding behind, Franklin will be frightened.
- Franklin may be named after Benjamin Franklin, who supposedly preferred the Wild Turkey to the Bald Eagle as the national bird of the United States.
- He has a deeper voice in Animal Crossing: City Folk and Animal Crossing: New Leaf than Animal Crossing.
