Blanca the Cat

Blanca (あやしいねこ, Suspicious Cat) is a recurring character in the Animal Crossing series, appearing in every game. She is a white cat who asks the player to draw her a face. Her name may come from the Spanish word for "white", which is "blanco" or her blank face, adding an 'a' to make it appear and sound like a name. Or, from the French word for "white", which is "blanc". Some say her gender is unknown, because she has no defining masculine or feminine features, though her name is a female name. In Animal Crossing: Wild World and Animal Crossing: City Folk, she has a distinct lazy or jock voice, both of which are male personality types.

Role

In Animal Forest and Animal Crossing

In Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival and Animal Crossing, she will randomly appear when traveling to other towns. When first meeting her, she will lack a face and will ask the player if they could draw her a new one. If the player meets her again, she may have a different face to the one the player drawn. Strangely, in all official artwork outside of the games, she is never shown with a blank face, instead having a drawn-on face or simply scribbles.

In Wild World

In Animal Crossing: Wild World, she will appear if the "Mysterious cat" mode is turned on (which can be by using the Telephone in the attic), and if the player has used Wi-Fi. She may appear randomly if the previous two conditions are met.

In City Folk

Blanca makes another appearance in Animal Crossing: City Folk. She may appear anywhere in the town as long as WiiConnect24 is enabled on both the Wii and the telephone in the attic. Like in the previous games, she will lack a face and ask the player to draw her one. Her face can be drawn a maximum of two times before she refuses anymore in one day. This has opened up some abuse with some Animal Crossing: City Folk users, due to anyone can edit Blanca and her face can allow explicit drawings or words - depending on who is on the Friend List. If the player doesn't draw her a face, she will get angry and tell them she won't be able to see anything. However, Blanca will only appear with a blank face if she originates in your town, if you have received Blanca from a registered friend, then you will see the face that they drew, but the player may change or clear Blanca's face. Also, Blanca doesn't seem to know if you only add a small to a bunch of detail on her face, however, any of your registered friends may receive her the next day.

Trivia

  • When Blanca washes her face, it comes off. Consequently, someone has to draw her a new one.
  • In Animal Crossing, Rover will constantly speak of a strange cat. He'll ask you if you've seen her. He is talking about Blanca.
  • Blanca is referred to as, "Bianca" in the Animal Crossing Prima Studyguide, which is Whitney's japanese name.
