Hairstyle
In Animal Crossing: Wild World, Animal Crossing: City Folk, and Animal Crossing: New Leaf the player has the option to change their hairstyle at Harriet's barber shop, Shampoodle. In Wild World, Shampoodle is available inside of Nookington's, meaning that players will first have to unlock Nookington's by spending 240,000 bells and having a friend visit their town and purchase an item from Nookway before being able to change their hairstyle. In City Folk, Shampoodle returns in the City and can be found at the right side of the town, down the alleyway. In New Leaf Shampoodle is found on the right side of Main Street above the Able Sisters.
In all three games, haircuts cost 3,000 bells, and can be done only once per day. In City Folk, Harriet also gives players the option to purchase a Mii Mask with the "Makeover" option for 3,000 bells. Upon receiving all hairstyles of their gender, players may start to receive hairstyles of the opposite gender. In New Leaf, after Shampoodle is open for 2 weeks and the player has gotten a haircut at least once Harriet will allow him or her to purchase Contacts for 3,000 bells. Once the player gets a haircut 15 times, players may start to receive the haircuts of the opposite gender.
Players can also wear wigs in order to access additional hairstyles. While technically considered a type of headgear, wigs will match the player's current hair color.

Bed Head
Bed head is a messy hairstyle that appears in Animal Crossing: City Folk and Animal Crossing: New Leaf. It occurs when the player has not played for 15 days or more, or when time traveling more than two weeks forward or backward. If the player does not replace it with a new haircut, villagers may comment on the player's hair, and it will be more difficult to pass Gracie's fashion check in City Folk. Harriet will also comment on it when the player receives a new haircut to replace the bed head. Bed head will overwrite any other hairstyle the player has, but it will not change the hair color.
Unlike all other New Leaf hairstyles, bed head is unavailable in Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer and Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp.
