Videos[edit]
You might want to have a look at this. Also, exactly how do we know what rules to follow? What I'm trying to say is, what are the standards here? Are there any official page where there are the rules to this wiki? Here is BP's site. ht14 (talk) 19:32, 21 November 2010 (EST)
- Videos are just <youtube>part after v=</youtube>. And you have a good point. I will start a rough copy in my sandbox. Super (duh...)Alpaca 19:42, 21 November 2010 (EST)
- We're currently working on writing up the rules. I know it's a bit late, but we wanted to take our time to ensure they are perfect for our community. They'll be up as soon as possible. --Jake 20:11, 21 November 2010 (EST)
- User:SuperAlpaca/Sandbox is the location for the BP thingy linked to earlier. For now, it is just a copy. Jake, you can edit it as you wish. Super (duh...)Alpaca 20:16, 21 November 2010 (EST)
In response to the original question about videos, I'll make it my priority to fix that page. It seems video tags were broken during the merger. --Jake 20:17, 21 November 2010 (EST)
New user message[edit]
This bot isn't quite working properly. It is giving the second parameter blank, which causes no username to appear (I'm not quite sure why that parameter is even needed). Even simpler, BASEPAGENAME could be used in the template so that no parameters are necessary at all. --SnorlaxMonster 03:27, 22 November 2010 (EST)
- Thanks for letting me know. The first parameter is automatically filled with the username of the newly registered user, and the second one is filled with the user's name. (If supplied during registration.) I was trying to create a switch to display the name is available, otherwise default to the username. Since it isn't working, I'll just switch it back to the first parameter only. --Jake 15:19, 22 November 2010 (EST)
Regarding ads[edit]
Any possibility to get rid of ads for logged-in users? ht14 (talk) 00:26, 29 November 2010 (EST)
- Ads strongly support our site financially. I've tried to make the ads as scarce as possible by having them appear only on articles and categories. If you are seeing inappropriate ads, I can have them blocked. But is there any particular reason that you need ads disabled for your account? (Other than the fact that they are somewhat annoying.) --Jake 15:07, 29 November 2010 (EST)
Forum Password[edit]
Hi Jake! :) I've forgotten my password and de-activated the email I used for registering so could you please change my email to matthewtelee@gmail.com. Thank you!!! Leem01 11:02, 30 November 2010 (EST) (Hopes you see this)
- On a related noted, the forum wouldn't accept my password after the switch, so I had to do the forgotten password thing to log in. I'm fine now, I just wanted to alert you to the problem.-Vulpes 11:35, 30 November 2010 (EST)
- I've changed your email as requested leem. Sorry to hear about the login problems guys. I know that forum passwords should have been converted, but if they aren't working then the converter must have screwed something up. I'll see if there's any mention of this on the IPS site. --Jake 15:04, 30 November 2010 (EST)
Adjustment suggestion for MainPageLogo[edit]
Hi Jake - I couldn't help but notice that the logo you uploaded, File:MainPageLogo.png, contained the Wikipedia logo on it. I think it would be best and would make the most sense if the Wikipedia logo was not included in the image. Wikipedia is Wikipedia, and to place it on the logo of Animal Crossing Wiki really doesn't make sense. They're two different things. It'd be like putting the Pepsi logo on a Coke bottle. Thanks, ~SuperHamster Talk 23:08, 1 December 2010 (EST)
- I didn't design the logo, so it's not possible for me to make any changes to it. If a better logo is uploaded and it passes a vote, then we can replace it. --Jake 23:13, 1 December 2010 (EST)
What can I help with?[edit]
Hi Jake, I'm Kumatora and I was wondering what can I help with? I just can't think of anything to write on. Please get back to me, thanks!--Kumatora 18:08, 3 December 2010 (EST)Kumatora
- Sure, I'll post a message on your user page to list some things. :) --Jake 22:03, 3 December 2010 (EST)
Issue[edit]
The template Template:BugInfoWW, the {{{PAGENAME}}} thing does not work. Did I do it wrong, or is it not something that works here? Super (duh...)Alpaca 16:51, 4 December 2010 (EST)
- It should work here, as it's a MediaWiki defined template. You must be using it wrong. --Jake 16:53, 4 December 2010 (EST)
Mass upload[edit]
Is there a way to get multiple images uploaded quickly? I am going to need it now that the bug template is working. Super (duh...)Alpaca 16:59, 4 December 2010 (EST)
- There's an extension that allows you to upload five images at a time. Is that acceptable? --Jake 17:03, 4 December 2010 (EST)
It only uploaded the first one on the list... And what are the dot things for? Super (duh...)Alpaca 17:32, 4 December 2010 (EST)
- I have no idea, as I've never used it before. Try experimenting. Maybe you have to click the dot next to each selector before choosing an image? --Jake 17:45, 4 December 2010 (EST)
Upload policy[edit]
I read it, and it looks good. The only thing is, it is not fair to limit the personal images without another way to have them displayed. I had images from PhotoBucket, but none of the links work. So, we need to have an external source that allows images to be displayed here. Super (duh...)Alpaca 20:33, 4 December 2010 (EST)
- I've just enabled the use of images from external sources. All you have to do is post the URL. Thanks for the reminder SA! --Jake 20:44, 4 December 2010 (EST)
Question regarding scripts[edit]
Hi Jake - I've got a question. On Wikipedia, we are able to run scripts by placing a script code on, for example, User:SuperHamster/scipt.js, and then importing the script to User:SuperHamster/vector.js for it to function. I was wondering if you know if this works here?
In addition, if I were to run a script that would automatically tag all character images with the proper licenses, would that be all right? Thanks, ~SuperHamster Talk 20:45, 4 December 2010 (EST)
- I will enable this function for you. If you can write a script that will do that, it would be great! --Jake 20:51, 4 December 2010 (EST)
- WAIT! You did all that manually?! Super (duh...)Alpaca 20:55, 4 December 2010 (EST)
- Thanks Jake - There are several scripts from Wikipedia that I can use, though they don't perform the exact task I describe, so I'll have to tinker around with them the best I can with my limited knowledge regarding script coding.
- As for doing all those images manually, yes, I did :P I figured that 200 wouldn't be too much to do, but when I reached the bottom of the page, I shockingly realized that there were multiple pages... ~SuperHamster Talk 20:59, 4 December 2010 (EST)
- WAIT! You did all that manually?! Super (duh...)Alpaca 20:55, 4 December 2010 (EST)
Hi again Jake - while messing with the scripts, I noticed that it is not possible to import scripts into User:SuperHamster/vector.js. However, it is possible to import scripts into non-vector.js scripts (for instance, I can import scripts into User:SuperHamster/imagelicensor.js just fine). I was wondering if importing scripts into User:SuperHamster/vector.js is a feature that needs to be enabled? Thanks for your time and help (again) with taking care of all the backstage features, I appreciate it. ~SuperHamster Talk 20:46, 7 December 2010 (EST)
- I don't think there are any other configuration settings related to that, but I'll keep looking. Enabling custom user js should be enough, correct? It could be a security limitation that MediaWiki is imposing. (We seem to have one of those MediaWiki versions that doesn't want to cooperate. :P) As I said, I'll keep looking for related configuration options. --Jake 22:01, 7 December 2010 (EST)
- Nevermind, you don't have to worry about it. Apparently it doesn't like it when I import a script that has imported scripts within itself, which I think is odd, as I've seen it done on Wikipedia. But thanks though. ~SuperHamster Talk 22:16, 7 December 2010 (EST)
DLC Items[edit]
Actually, the pages were being split into /North America, /Europe, and /Japan. The pages should still be there. Super (duh...)Alpaca 17:14, 6 December 2010 (EST)
- Ah, now I see. I guess we should finish up the split. I'm designing an infobox to make the DLC items more presentable. --Jake 17:17, 6 December 2010 (EST)
InterWiki[edit]
I was just randomly looking at it, and I see that one of them is a Wikia wiki. About Seattle. Why? I do not even think there has been an active member there forever. It is a bizare place. Do we need it? Can it be removed? Actually, why are most of them there? Super (duh...)Alpaca 22:13, 6 December 2010 (EST)
- A lot of them come with the MediaWiki software. I'll remove all unnecessary ones. :) --Jake 22:15, 6 December 2010 (EST)
Deletion request[edit]
Hi Jake - I accidentally created User:SuperHamster/vector.js/&action=edit&newstatus= while messing with the page URL. Could you please delete it? Sorry about that. Thanks, ~SuperHamster Talk 17:39, 14 December 2010 (EST)
- I've done it.-Vulpes 17:44, 14 December 2010 (EST)
- A belated thanks, Vulpes. Now I've got another request :P While running my script, I accidentally created File:BrawlGame while tagging File:BrawlGame&Watch.jpg, due to the darned ampersand in "Game&Watch". Thanks, ~SuperHamster Talk 02:47, 27 December 2010 (EST)
File Uploader[edit]
Are there problems with the file uploader? I uploaded a new file of the United Kingdom flag and it doesn't seem to want to overwrite :/ It appears in the file history, but won't revert to it either. Very strange :P - MerrytonRyan 15:22, 17 December 2010 (EST)
- I cannot upload large files on Safari, so I have to use Firefox. Try a different browser. Super (duh...)Alpaca 15:29, 17 December 2010 (EST)
There aren't any problems that I know of. Are you sure the image you are uploading is the same file format? --Jake 15:30, 17 December 2010 (EST)
- Yep. I even deleted the file page and uploaded it in place of the name, but for some reason it keeps showing the old image :/ I'm using Firefox at the moment. I might delete my cache and see if that solves it. - MerrytonRyan
- Seems to of uploaded when viewing in Internet Explorer 8, just for some reason Firefox won't change the page. Odd. The cache has been cleared so I'm guessing it's just being miserable :P Does appear the right way for other people? It should be two red crosses - one at the front, and one shaped as an X following the path of the white cross, rather than the one which was the old image :) - MerrytonRyan 18:12, 17 December 2010 (EST)
- Seems to be working! :) --Jake 18:32, 17 December 2010 (EST)
- Ah good, all I see with Firefox is the blue background, white X and red cross flag, which hasn't been used since the 1800s :P - MerrytonRyan 18:55, 17 December 2010 (EST)
- Uh, that's what I see. When you click on it, the right flag comes up, but the one here is wrong.-Vulpes 18:56, 17 December 2010 (EST)
- Purge the page? --Jake 18:57, 17 December 2010 (EST)
- There we go.-Vulpes 18:59, 17 December 2010 (EST)
- Didn't work for me :/ It seems to be correct anyway, just a fault on my side. All this because I stumbled on the Userboxes page and found the GB flag was incorrect :P I was hoping to do it quietly :( - MerrytonRyan 19:00, 17 December 2010 (EST)
- Purge the page? --Jake 18:57, 17 December 2010 (EST)
- Uh, that's what I see. When you click on it, the right flag comes up, but the one here is wrong.-Vulpes 18:56, 17 December 2010 (EST)
Checkuser[edit]
Hey, could you checkuser me? I don't know if I already have an account on this site and I want to know if I'm accidentally sockpuppeting >_> -ACG1 (Talk)
e-Reader cards[edit]
Hey Jake - I've got a question for you at Nookipedia talk:Current events. At first I didn't realize that you created the to-do list, otherwise I would have originally directed the question directly to you on your talk page. Thanks, ~SuperHamster Talk 01:21, 26 December 2010 (EST)
- I actually didn't create the entire to-do list. I'm not sure what e-reader cards refers to either. Perhaps you should contact SuperAlpaca or Dragonfree97. --Jake 11:09, 26 December 2010 (EST)
Forums[edit]
I'd just like to point out, on the forums, new users can't do anything. I've tried doing so many things, going on chat, editing every topic on the forum, creating new topics and even editing my profile - none of it works. The only thing I can do is add comments to other people's profiles. I think that should be changed :) Or will it fix with time? -Acguy1
- Have you verified your account's email address? That is most likely the problem. :) --Jake 19:01, 1 January 2011 (EST)
- Perfect!--Animalcrossingguy1 19:30, 1 January 2011 (EST)
K.K. Chorele[edit]
I've only seen one other respons to this tirade, so thanks. Google "Animal Crossing Wiki", find the one at accf.wikispaces (its called Animal Crossing: Lets Go to the Wiki) which is a wiki on City Folk. From there, search "Hacker Set". Spmewhere in that list is K.K. Chorele. Its on that page because the only way to get it is by hacking. My tirade is also on the discussion of "Hacker Set". Thanks for saying something, man. For more sites that mention it, google "K.K. Chorele".
Thanks. Ratfael 13:52, 8 February 2011 (EST)
- Not a problem. I searched for "K.K. Chorele" in Google, ignoring its spelling suggestion. The results returned all seem to come from that wiki, followed by a few other random results. Seeing as there aren't any references provided on the wiki page, the song's existence is somewhat questionable. I think it was most likely just a fake edit made by an editor to either fill up space or throw people off. --Jake 15:38, 8 February 2011 (EST)
Recent text replacement[edit]
Hey Jake. The recent text replacing that you did for the infobox image sizes is great, except for one thing: on pages where the the image sizes were already specified, image sizes were combined, like this. Most of these errors look visually fine when the article is viewed (such as the one I just linked to). There were exceptions, however, such as this, in which the images were really blown up. I have gone through all the edits and fixed the ones that caused major visual errors, but many articles still have the coding mixup. Any way to easily fix this without having to do it manually? Thanks, ~SuperHamster Talk 00:38, 10 February 2011 (EST)
- It doesn't seem like we're allowed to use regular expressions in text replacements, and I can't find any strings that would match correctly. Sadly, I think we're going to need to correct these manually. I'm really sorry for causing this. I never saw this coming based on the confirmation screen. --Jake 16:03, 10 February 2011 (EST)
Countdown[edit]
It ain't working. If I am doing something wrong in my sandbox, please fix it. But it showed up when I checked history. I am confuzzled. Super (duh...)Alpaca 21:06, 12 March 2011 (EST)
- I've run some tests, and it appears that the Countdown extension is broken. I'm looking into possible fixes. :) --Jake 21:45, 12 March 2011 (EST)
Issues editing[edit]
Well, I cannot edit the Zipper T. Bunny page because there is a word on it that is on a list, and I tried posting here yesterday, but I had the word in it. So, can you fix the issue? The word was J-O-B-S. Super (duh...)Alpaca 13:40, 27 March 2011 (EDT)
- J-o-b-s was added to the censor because it's used by all of the spam bots. If we remove it, spam bots would be able to post again. You'll just need to use a different synonym for that word. Sorry. :( --Jake 13:43, 27 March 2011 (EDT)
- You could try "jobs". It's how I get pass word filters usually (if it's a word used in appropriate context and isn't rude :P It can be a bit messy though, so a diffferent word might have to be the way :/ - MerrytonRyan 15:20, 27 March 2011 (EDT)
Replace Text accident[edit]
I accidentally forgot to enter what it was supposed to change to.... Now, all the Category:Male Characters are nothing instead of Category:Male characters. Can you fix it or do we have to do it manually. Also, rollbacking is bad because I installed the new infobox template to them and rollback would get rid of that as well. Super (duh...)Alpaca 18:00, 2 April 2011 (EDT)
- We were lucky that because the replacement left behind a [[]], I could run another text replace on only the villagers to fix it. :) --Jake 18:11, 2 April 2011 (EDT)
Images[edit]
Eh, I don't really want to make a bad article for Club Nintendo; the images I uploaded are here and here. We can also incorporate the playing cards. ht14 (talk) 20:27, 8 May 2011 (EDT)
- The best part of a wiki is that there are others here to help you. Try your best to make the article, and mark it with the
{{Construction}}
and or{{Stub}}
templates if you feel it needs more work. :) --Jake 22:29, 8 May 2011 (EDT)
Regarding POV[edit]
Should the wiki be in 1st person or third person? The wiki is very inconsistent, even within articles. ht14 (talk) 20:55, 8 May 2011 (EDT)
- Third person is always preferred. We're working on rewriting articles that are written in first person, so third person should be used in all future articles. --Jake 22:29, 8 May 2011 (EDT)
Deletion request[edit]
The only reason I'm telling you is because putting the delete template does not register the Pending Deletion category. Can you help delete User:ht14/monobook.css? Thanks in advance. ht14 (talk) 00:39, 9 May 2011 (EDT)
