Template talk:Block

Redesign?[edit]

Just a heads-up: in my sandbox I'm currently drafting a new template that could complement or replace the existing block template. I just feel that a block notification is more useful than a template at the top of the talk page, not just to inform the user that they're blocked, but also for several other reasons:

  • We would be able to write longer/more detailed block reasons (I know we can do that with the existing template, but it starts to look untidy).
  • It would be easier to keep track of an account's disciplinary record and the blocks they have accumulated, without having to search the block logs.
  • We wouldn't have to remember to remove the template after the block expired.

Certainly not a final design, and the temporary and indefinite templates need combining into one which I haven't implemented yet.

Does anyone have any thoughts? Drago (talk) Drago PC Villager Icon.png 13:57, May 19, 2024 (EDT)

Good but maybe the permanent ban one should be red. ACL.png Acnh Player (talk) ACL.png 14:00, May 19, 2024 (EDT)
I did consider that, but it looks too similar to Template:BlockWarning. As I said, it's not the final design, and I'm sure the colors will change if it's implemented. Drago (talk) Drago PC Villager Icon.png 14:03, May 19, 2024 (EDT)
Maybe template:Blockwarning should be yellow, and the permanent ban should be red. It doesn't make sense if the warning is more red than the actual ban template. ACL.png Acnh Player (talk) ACL.png 14:51, May 19, 2024 (EDT)
I like the redesign, but I feel like I'm not quite understanding how this template would be implemented. Am I understanding correctly that it would be a site notice and not a template added to a user page? Also I'm having trouble understanding how it would "...be easier to keep track of an account's disciplinary record and the blocks they have accumulated..." Not trying to be critical just not quite understanding the implementation. Sunmarshsignature.png (talk) 23:40, June 24, 2024 (EDT)
It sounds like it would be a template on your talk page, detailing why you got banned. The number of templates you get would be easily visible and would not be removed unless your ban is removed, so staff can easily check how many times you got banned without digging through the block log.
