The axe is a tool item in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. As an axe, the player can use this item for 100 times to hit trees for either wood, softwood, hardwood, bamboo piece, young spring bamboo, or wood egg depending on the season, or to hit a rock for items (the item will break once the rock produces no more items). Hitting a tree three times with the axe will chop down the tree. The axe cannot be used on any players' islands unless they are marked as a Best Friend.

The axe can be obtained from either Nook's Cranny for 2,500 Bells or from crafting, which requires 1× flimsy axe, 3× wood, and 1× iron nugget. The recipe for this item can be obtained from the Pretty Good Tools Recipes item. The physical recipe is unobtainable as of version 1.11.0, and it will disappear if flown or kept between play sessions.

In Happy Home Paradise, this item is unlocked for use in designing when doing a vacation home request for Chabwick, Cranston, Gayle, Gruff, Hamphrey, Huck, Knox, Leopold, Limberg, Papi, Rod, Soleil, and Stu.
