Animal Crossing Community (commonly abbreviated as ACC) is a community website for the Animal Crossing series. ACC is primarily a forum board, but it also features guides written by site staff or volunteers, an item catalog, and an automated trading post for Animal Crossing games. ACC also provides users the ability to share their town tunes and designs using on-site creativity tools. Recently,[when?] the staff have begun running competitions and other forms of community engagement such as the Treasure Hunting feature.
History[edit]
COPPA compliance[edit]
For many years of its operation, the ACC staff was unaware of the required compliance with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) for sites that collect a substantial amount of information from children. On January 23, 2011, a required parental consent system was added to the site to comply with federal regulations. All new and existing users must now enter their date of birth prior to using the site. Users under the age of 13 must have a parent or guardian complete a credit card transaction in the amount of $0.30 to verify consent.[1] All existing users that had not verified consent after 30 days had all personal information wiped from their accounts, including their profile information and posts. This caused numerous issues with forum threads and their post counts due to a bug in the site's coding. This issue has since been fixed by jader201.[2]
New ownership[edit]
In November 2022, jader201, the site's creator, announced that he would be stepping down as administrator and owner/operator of Animal Crossing Community. aldericon, a long time staff member, took over the operations in December 2022.[3]
