Candy
Candy is an item that appears in Animal Crossing, Animal Crossing: City Folk, Animal Crossing: New Leaf, and Animal Crossing: New Horizons, often depicted as a sweet wrapped in a red, yellow, green or blue-striped wrapper. In the games in which candy is present, it can be obtained in a variety of different ways- most commonly being sold throughout October in preparation for Halloween. The player can also obtain candy during certain events, often as a "losing" prize, with the method of obtaining it varying between games. Some players may consider candy to be a piece of Trash in the same way that spoiled turnips, empty cans, boots and tyres are, despite no game considering candy as such. This may be due to the fact that in some games, candy can spawn ants around it after being dropped on the ground.

In Animal Crossing[edit]
On Halloween night in Animal Crossing, from 6 PM until 1 AM the following morning, villagers dressed as Jack, the Czar of Halloween, chase the player in hopes of receiving candy. If the player refuses to give any candy, the clothes or inventory items are transformed. When players give candy to Jack, they will receive an item from the Spooky Series in return.
During October, Tom Nook sells up to five pieces of candy per day at a price of 100 bells each. They take the place of flower bags in the shop from October 16 to October 30, while flower bags take the place of saplings, meaning no saplings are sold while candy is being sold.
In City Folk[edit]
In Animal Crossing: City Folk, there are four colors of candy: blue, green, red, and yellow. Candy can be given to the player by visiting the houses of the villagers who stayed in on Halloween night by wearing a costume. Also, during the new event, Festivale, candy can be won from villagers in luck-based challenges except hide-and-seek and can be supplied to the host of the festival - Pavé. He will ask for three of a certain colored-wrapper of candy, which will reward the player with Festivale Series furniture. They also can be found on Bunny Day, in some eggs. If the player leaves candy on the ground, ants can appear crawling over it.
During October, Tom Nook sells one piece of candy per day in Animal Crossing: City Folk, and they cost 400 Bells each.
In New Leaf[edit]
In Animal Crossing: New Leaf, the player will no longer receive candy as either a "losing prize", and the amount of times candy was needed in some events was lowered. One particular example of this change is the player no longer receiving candy after winning a luck-based minigame, playable on events such as Festivale. New minigames were added to New Leaf, with some of the mechanics of minigames present in City Folk being altered, while others outright removed, as was the case for Imaginary Soccer, Coin Toss and the Psychic/ESP Test. Rather than obtaining candy from villagers, the player would play games such as Rock paper scissors or Charades with villagers in an attempt to win a feather of a particular color. The player could also obtain feathers from their villagers, as some would ask the player to trade. Once the player obtained three feathers of the color that Pavé asked them to bring, they would be rewarded with an item from the Pavé furniture series.
Despite no longer being obtainable during Festivale, candy is still used in some events, most notably on Halloween. On Halloween, villagers will chase after the player if they get too close. If the villager catches up to the player, dialogue follows in which the villager asks the player to give them a piece of candy. If the player agrees, the villager will inform the player of the mask required to scare a certain villager, who will be hiding inside their house. The mask required to scare a villager is dependent on their species and personality type.
Throughout the month of October, the player can purchase candy from the Nookling Stores. This temporarily limits the player only being able to purchase one Fortune Cookie per day rather than two. However, the option to purchase two fortune cookies only becomes available after the Nookling Store has been upgraded to T&T Mart at a minimum.
Candy is also available on Bunny Day and takes the form of a losing prize. On Bunny Day, the player collects eggs hidden throughout their town. When an egg is eaten, the item inside will either be a Prize Ticket, Grand Prize Ticket, or a piece of candy.
In New Horizons[edit]
Candy was added to New Horizons in the 1.5.0 Fall Update, and is available at Nook's Cranny/New Horizons throughout the month of October at a price of 120 bells. The player can only purchase one piece of candy from Nook's Cranny per day and can also be dropped on the ground outside to possibly attract an ant.
