The Velociraptor is a two-part fossil in Animal Crossing: City Folk and Animal Crossing: New Leaf.

At the museum

In City Folk

When donating the final part to Blathers in City Folk, he will provide the following information about the fossil:

"...Hoo my goodness! The velociraptor is assembled! Simply magnificent! Velociraptors first began to appear in the last days of the dinosaurs. Their bodies were small, but they could run fast and were smart enough to use teamwork... In some respects, they were the best hunters in the dinosaur world!"

The Velociraptor can be found in the first room of the fossil exhibit in the museum. Its plaque reads:

"Velociraptor
Length: 5.9 feet
Late Cretaceous Period"

In New Leaf

After donating the final part of the fossil in New Leaf, its plaque in the museum will read:

"Usually just called raptors, they're also known as velociraptors, which literally means "swift seizers." They had large heads for their bodies, so theories suggest they were relatively intelligent. Though not imposing in stature, they had large and deadly claws on their hind legs."

The Velociraptor can be found in the first room of the fossil exhibit in the museum.

Real-world information

Velociraptor was a small theropod dinosaur that lived in modern-day Mongolia during the Late Cretaceous, 75 to 71 million years ago. It is a member of the family Dromaeosauridae, all of which were feathered and bipedal, as well as one of the closest relatives of living birds. While they were popularized by the Jurassic Park series, the dinosaurs in the film were actually based off the much larger Deinonychus. In real life, Velociraptor was about the size of a turkey, weighing 15 kg and reaching a length of about 2 meters (half of which is its tail) and a height of 0.5m at the hip. Recent studies suggest that it hunted like modern birds of prey: it would pin down its prey with its sickle claws — possibly flapping its wings to keep stable — and then eat the captured animal alive.
