Stationery are items that can be used to write letters.
In games prior to Animal Crossing: New Horizons, most stationery can be purchased from Tom Nook's store or Timmy and Tommy's store in packs of four. Upon receiving a letter, the stationery it is written on is added to the player's catalog. Some stationery cannot be obtained by the player and can only be added to the catalog when receiving letters from special senders.
In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, stationery is replaced with cards, which are chosen in the airport when sending a letter. Cards function the same as stationery but do not go into the player's pockets and thus are not items.

A total of 64 stationery items appear in Doubutsu no Mori, Animal Crossing, and Doubutsu no Mori e+. One stationery in Doubutsu no Mori and Doubutsu no Mori+, the Danger Paper, is replaced with the Orange Paper, in Animal Crossing and Doubutsu no Mori e+.
Stationery can be purchased in packs of four from Tom Nook's store for 160 Bells.[nb 1] It can also be obtained from the dump, the Lost & Found, Wisp, and villagers. Three types of stationery—the Fortune Paper, Wing Paper, and New Year's Card—can only be cataloged from received letters and cannot be obtained as items.
