Grass is the vegetation that covers most of the land in the Animal Crossing series. It changes color with the seasons, and during the winter it is covered by snow.

In games prior to Animal Crossing: New Horizons, a town's grass can have one of three geometrical patterns—triangles, circles, or squares—with each grass pattern having a corresponding snow pattern. In New Horizons, all grass has a triangle pattern.

In Animal Crossing: City Folk and Animal Crossing: New Leaf, a feature known as animal tracks causes grass to deteriorate as it is walked over, revealing the dirt underneath. In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, grass can be placed with the Island Designer NookPhone app.

In every first-generation Animal Crossing game, grass covers most of the town and Animal Island, and it is broken up by circular or figure-eight shaped patches of dirt. From December 10 to February 24, snow covers all the grass in the town. The triangle grass pattern corresponds to circle snow, circle grass corresponds to square snow, and square grass corresponds to star snow.

In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, grass covers the entire island and can only have a triangle pattern. All Mystery Island Tour islands and most boat tour islands also use the triangle pattern, but the vine/growing moss boat tour islands use the square pattern. Additionally, the Paradise Planning archipelago uses the square pattern.
