The player rolling a snowball in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Snowballs are objects in the Animal Crossing series that appear in town during winter. Each day, two snowballs appear throughout the town. Two snowballs can be stacked on top of one another by simply pushing one into the other to create Snowfolk.

At first, snowballs can be kicked around as the player walks into them, like balls. As they roll on snowy grass, they will slowly increase in size and the player can begin to roll the snowball with their hands. The player has greater control of the snowball in this stage, as the snowball stays in front of the player as they roll forward. As the snowball is rolled over non-snowy ground, it will slowly decrease in size.

Snowballs can be destroyed or lost if they are rolled into objects, hit with a shovel or axe, rolled off cliffs, or rolled into a body of water or a hole. Snowballs that have been destroyed or lost can reappear if the player enters and exits a building.

Beginning in Animal Crossing: Wild World, dung beetles can roll snowballs.

Appearances[edit]

In the first-generation games[edit]

The player rolling a snowball in Animal Crossing

In every first-generation Animal Crossing game, snowballs appear from December 25 to February 17. They cannot spawn in acres that contain the player houses, Tom Nook's store, the train station, the lake, or the museum.

In Wild World[edit]

In Animal Crossing: Wild World, snowballs appear from December 11 to February 24.

In City Folk[edit]

The player rolling a snowball in City Folk

In Animal Crossing: City Folk, snowballs appear from December 11 to February 24.

If a snowball is rolled in front of the bus stop, attempting to ride the bus to the city causes a message to appear saying, "The bus has been delayed due to a massive snowball on the road."

In New Leaf[edit]

A snowball in a river in New Leaf

In Animal Crossing: New Leaf, snowballs appear from December 11 to February 24. The size of the snowballs rolled together determines which Snowfolk is built: either a Snowtyke, Snowboy, Snowmam, or Snowman.

In New Horizons[edit]

In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, snowballs appear from December 11 to February 24 in the northern hemisphere, and from June 11 to August 24 in the southern hemisphere. Rolling two snowballs of any size together creates a Snowboy.

Snowballs do not appear while the island's gates are open.
