As a rug item, it can be placed inside the houses of villagers, the player, Photopia on Harv's Island, a vacation home in Happy Home Paradise, or in the Room Sketch app.

The yellow star rug can be obtained from crafting, which requires 3× star fragment. The recipe for this item can be obtained from Celeste or from message bottles found on the Star Fragment island via Kapp'n's boat tours.
