Tom Nook's Shop
Tom Nook's Store is the main place of every player's town for buying and selling items. It is owned and staffed by Tom Nook. When upgraded to Nookington's, Nook's nephews Timmy and Tommy will work in the upstairs of the shop.
History
Animal Crossing: Population Growing
Tom Nook's first North American appearance was in Animal Crossing: Population Growing. The store was always located in a random A acre. Nook sold furniture, clothing, tools, wallpaper, flooring, trees, flowers, a signboard, and paint. Nook also bought items off the player in exchange for bells.
Animal Crossing: Population Growing also began the tradition of the player working for Nook in order to pay off their mortgage. Tasks from Nook included various things such as writing letters, making deliveries, or posting a message on the bulletin board. Nook also gives the player a work uniform. This outfit cannot be obtained anywhere else, but is worth nothing if you try selling it.
Nook also ran a raffle on the last day of each month. The player could enter to win one of three prizes with 5 raffle tickets, which were earned by purchasing items from Nook throughout the month. The tickets were only good for the current month. The player was able to enter the raffle as many times as they want as long as they had enough tickets.
Animal Crossing: Wild World
Animal Crossing: Wild World also features Nook's store. It is placed randomly on the map again, but is not limited to a certain area as in Population Growing. It is always located directly to the left of the Able Sisters.
Nook's store also features Shampoodle in this version, once it is upgraded to Nookington's. The player can enter Shampoodle to receive a haircut from the hairdresser Harriet for 3,000 bells.
In this game, Nook offers some additional tools such as the slingshot and watering can, but no longer sells clothing or signboards. Clothing can now only be bought at The Able Sisters, or via catalog. Tom Nook's Point System was also introduced in place of his previous monthly raffles. Players would earn points for purchases they made, which would earn them discounts and prizes at certain point levels.
Animal Crossing: City Folk
In Animal Crossing: City Folk, Nook's store is once again located in a random acre, although it is no longer accompanied by The Able Sisters. Shampoodle was also moved from Nook's to The City.
Tom Nook's Point System was kept alive in City Folk, and introduced a new feature that allows the player to exchange their points for various Nintendo-related items, such as a kart from Mario Kart, or Link's clothing from The Legend of Zelda. Store hours were also changed a bit.
City Folk also introduces the feature for Nook to downgrade his store. Approximately a month after upgrading to Nookington's, Nook will ask any players who are exiting his shop whether they favor good hours, balance, or variety. Answering good hours will cause him to downgrade to Nook 'n' Go, balance will downgrade to Nookway, and variety will keep Nookington's. Any changes will be made a week after Nook asks you this question. Nook will ask this question again eventually.
Nook’s Store Upgrades
When you first move in to your town, Nook’s store will be a simple shack. Luckily for you though, with some more profits, Nook can expand his store to sell more items! Nook’s four different stores in the order he will upgrade in are Nook’s Cranny, Nook ‘N’ Go, Nookway, and last but definitely not least, Nookington’s.
In order for Nook to upgrade, you must buy and/or sell a certain amount of bells worth of items. You will also have to wait a certain amount of time from the last upgrade. When Nook has received enough money to upgrade, he will post a message on the town bulletin board, and will tell you the day before when you enter his store. In order to upgrade, Nook will close his store for a day, and when you come back the next day, it will be bigger! Look at the table below for more information on each store upgrade.

Downgrading
About one month after your store is upgraded to Nookington’s, on your way out of the store Nook will ask you what you look for in your shopping experience. The answer you choose will affect Nook’s Store, so proceed carefully.
- Good Hours – Your store will change to Nook ‘N’ Go.
- Balance – Your store will change to Nookway.
- Variety – You will keep Nookington’s.
- Nothing Much – You will keep Nookington’s.
All players living in your town may vote, and whichever option has the most votes will take place. A few days later, Nook will change his store to whatever was voted on. About a month later, he will ask you this question again, and you can change the store if you’d like.
Spotlight Items
Every once in a while, Nook will have a spotlight item in his store. When Nook has a spotlight item, he will make a post about it on the bulletin board, and will tell you when you attempt to buy the item. Spotlight items are only available from Nook (with a couple exceptions). Below is a chart listing all Nook’s spotlight items and their prices.

Tom Nook’s Point System
Ever notice that green machine on the corner of Nook’s Store? Well that’s Tom Nook’s Point Tracking Machine (PTM)! It keeps track of all your Nook points, which you can spend on prizes! What are Nook Points you ask? Well, Nook Points are a special currency in Tom Nook’s Store. They will earn you special prizes and discounts on items. For every 100 bells you spend, you will receive 1 Nook Point. Note that Nook points are not cumulative. This means for buying stationary at 160 bells, you will only receive 1 point. When you buy 5 stationary for 800 bells, you will still only receive 5 points, since you got 1 point for each one. The other way to receive points is by visiting Nook’s shop every day. You can receive 3 points a day by entering the shop, going to the PTM, and selecting visitor points. You will receive 5 visitor points if you do this in somebody else’s town. The maximum amount of points you can have at a time is 50,000.
5x Point Days
Every once in a while, Nook will hold a 5x point day, where you receive 5x the amount of points for each purchase. These points are not cumulative either, so you will still only receive 5 points for stationary, not 8. When Nook is having a point special, he will post a message on the bulletin board a few days in advance. The fastest way to gain points is to wait for one of these days and buy multiple expensive items, such as the moon, from your catalog.
Ranks
Upon receiving a certain amount of points, you will obtain a higher rank on Tom Nook’s Point System. Higher ranks give you discounts at Tom Nook’s Store, and you will receive a special model in the mail. Rank points are separate from total points, meaning you will not lose rank points when you buy a prize. You will receive less Nook points for discounted items.

Point Rewards
Along with your store discount, you can spend your Nook points on special rewards. Reward Points are separate from Rank Points, so if you buy a reward, you will not lose points towards your rank, but you will lose reward points. Below is a table showing all the rewards and how much they cost.
