A Lighthouse is the final landmark that is obtainable through the town fund in Animal Crossing: City Folk. The town players will vote on either this or the windmill. The lighthouse is supposed to increase sighting of rare fish, while the windmill increases town beauty. Both facts have been proven by Nintendo

Also, in Animal Crossing for the GameCube, it is located near the water and turns on when it begins to get dark. Once a year, the mayor will ask the player to turn on the lighthouse every night for seven days. This is also the only time the inside of the Lighthouse can be seen. If the light is turned on each day, Tortimer will reward the player; if you even missed one day, he won't give any reward.
