Stationery is a valuable gameplay element in the Animal Crossing series; its primary function is for letter writing, and for receiving items, like presents, bells and flower seeds in the mail. It comes in packs of four, with a variety of different patterns and themes.

Stationery can be obtained in a number of ways:

  • It can be purchased at Tom Nook's store
  • Found at the dump or in the Police Station's 'Lost and Found' (Animal Crossing)
  • Found in the Town Gate's 'Lost and Found' (Wild World and City Folk)

If the player receives a letter written on previously unencountered stationery, the stationery will be automatically added to the player's catalog. This also applies to stationery sent by special characters or the HRA; although these types of stationery cannot be bought or written on, they will appear in the catalog.
