During their initial appearance in City Folk, lamp posts can be found within the city, serving as a source of light during the night hours. They stay turned off during the day.
In New Leaf
In New Leaf, lamp posts can be built throughout the player's town as a Public Works Project for and continue to serve as a source of light. There are six different styles of lamp posts - street lamp, round streetlight, retro streetlight, fairy-tale streetlight, modern streetlight, and zen streetlight.
