Talk:Special Visitors

I stumbled across this page and saw it needed some more characters adding... oh this will be easy I thought. After poking it for a while though I'm not convinced. There are some distinct problems.

The page is labelled Special Visitors but is linked to by the Special Villagers link in the nav thingy which covers pretty much ever non-regular-villager NPC including shop owners and so on.

If you include all the special characters in this page it's going to be a mammoth unreadable mess, otoh if you want to narrow it down then you need to define "visitor." Whilst the NPCs are divided by type in the Special Villager nav thing at the bottom there are easily arguments to be made for including NPCs outside the regular/holiday visitor sections (such as Lyle since he was special visitor but is now a proprietor and it appears PC has recycled a large number of usually non-visitor-y NPCs to host events) and the whole thing gets horribly messy.

My suggestion would be to change the page to Special Villagers since this would make more sense as that's primarily what links here, use the text to explain the different roles NPCs have based on the nav thingy definitions (proprietor, government, visitor etc) and provide a table for each section with a very brief description description of each linking to their character pages (eg: Pelly - Works at post office). If you want a page with list in the format that this page currently is I would suggest dividing it along the same lines as the nav thingy (I really need to work out what to call that), so a page for Government Employees, one for proprietors etc etc and putting a link into each section before the table (in the way that it currently links to each character before the description text). So as a rough example of a section:

Government Employees

Government employees are characters who run the various civic buildings blah blah

Name	Location	Description
Blathers	Museum	Runs the Museum
Booker	Police Station	Runs the Lost and Found
Celeste	Museum	Runs the Second floor Museum Shop or Observatory

I like this idea! Always thought this page was inadequate, and a revamp will allow us to get every special character on rather than the small selection we have now. We don't need long descriptions either, because the individual character articles provide that info. Drago (talk) 11:41, December 6, 2018 (EST)

I have bodged together a preliminary version of this page, probably needs a bunch of tweaking and I'm not sure what to do now. Should I just forge ahead and rely on you guys to revert it if it's terrible? Ideally I'd actually replace the redirect page here (not sure how to force it not to redirect when linking), and then tweak the nav template so it pointed there since it says it does already despite actually pointing here and then mark this for deletion... Looking good! I'd suggest adding images of each character to the tables, and maybe removing the last section about the player (which looks unnecessary to me). But clearly this is going to be a great revamp! Drago (talk) 11:14, December 7, 2018 (EST)

Ok, page added to Special Characters. Can I request this one be changed to be a redirect to that? I fixed all the incoming links to here other than one dead redirect which I flagged for deletion. I hope this is all okay, kinda nervous about big edits but the fact that they can be undone if I have messed up gives me some security. :) Kazz (talk) 17:28, December 9, 2018 (EST)
