An islander is a villager that lives on the island. The island was introduced in the updated port of the original Doubutsu no Mori, titled Doubutsu no Mori+, where the islanders were the only new villagers introduced. The eighteen islanders were also brought over in Animal Crossing. In Doubutsu no Mori e+, an additional eighteen islanders were added. The female islanders wore Red Aloha Shirts, while the male islanders wore Blue Aloha Shirts.

If a connection with the Nintendo GameCube and the Game Boy Advance is present, the player can interact with the islander. Each islander has one favorite fruit and one fruit they are allergic to. If a tool is dropped, the islander can interact with it. They can also give the player money bags, which can be collected upon return. On the island is an island bungalo for the player with four shirts in it, two of which are Red Aloha Shirts and the other two being Blue Aloha Shirts. Every player can edit this house.
