Wii Speak is an add-on accessory to the Wii. It was meant to be used for the Wii Speak Channel, but also could be used in Animal Crossing: City Folk before online services were discontinued on May 20, 2014. In Animal Crossing: City Folk, Wii Speak could be used while visiting other players' towns. This was one way to communicate in the game. If other people did not have the Wii Speak they could still hear other players and could still communicate by using the built-in keyboard, either through the Wii Remote or by a USB keyboard.
It was released in North America on November 16, 2008[1] and in Europe on December 5, 2008.[2]
