Revision as of 23:12, April 17, 2021
The following is a list of bugs in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
The total number of bugs in New Horizons is 80, 8 more than the number of bugs in Animal Crossing: New Leaf. Bugs that have been removed since New Leaf include the House Centipede, Lantern Fly, Oak Silk Moth, and Petaltail Dragonfly. Bugs new in New Horizons include the Atlas Moth, Blue Weevil Beetle, Common Bluebottle, Damselfly, Giant Water Bug, Giraffe Stag, Madagascan Sunset Moth, Man-Faced Stink Bug, and Paper Kite Butterfly. The Great Purple Emperor and Drone Beetle return in this game after being cut past Doubutsu no Mori e+.
Some bugs will not spawn in the game until the player has caught a specific total amount of bugs. For example, some of the rare beetles will not spawn until the player has caught at least 100 bugs in total.

Trivia
- It is possible to complete the New Horizons bug Critterpedia in the Southern Hemisphere in only four months total from the game's launch on March 20, 2020 via online play. This is possible since most bugs are available from March to June, including bugs that cannot be obtained online, such as the Walking Leaf, the Mosquito, and the Dung Beetle. For any other bugs that cannot be caught on their island, players could then travel to a Northern Hemisphere island to obtain otherwise out-of-season bugs such as the Peacock Butterfly and the Firefly. A player in the Southern Hemisphere could therefore complete the bug Critterpedia as early as July 1, while a player in the Northern Hemisphere cannot complete the bug Critterpedia until December 11 since one bug, the Dung Beetle, is impossible to obtain when playing online as their spawn location, snowballs, will not appear in online sessions.
