O'Hare is a rabbit in the Animal Crossing series. He first appeared in Doubutsu no Mori+ as a cranky islander, and after his appearance in Doubutsu no Mori e+, he remained absent from the series until Animal Crossing: New Leaf, where he returns as a smug villager. His name is likely a pun on hare, an animal similar to a rabbit.

In New Horizons, O'Hare has the nature hobby and may be found reading a book pertaining to an item he is studying, which can be either flowers, bugs, fish, or fossils.

Appearance[edit]

O'Hare is a dark brown rabbit with orange hair, a green nose, black eyes, and green on the insides of his ears. He also wears a yellow straw hat with a black trim, which is also worn by the other two cranky islanders, Flash and Rowan (only in Doubutsu no Mori+, Animal Crossing, and Doubutsu no Mori e+ for the latter).

In Animal Crossing, O'Hare has a cranky personality. Beginning in Animal Crossing: New Leaf, he has a smug personality.

Due to being an islander, O'Hare's cranky personality is different than the normal cranky personality behavior. While cranky villagers are rude, easily angered, and belittling, O'Hare acts more like the smug personality introduced in Animal Crossing: New Leaf (which O'Hare would later switch to), being gentlemanly and polite, but also arrogant and conceited. This behavior is also shared with Curlos, Flash, Frank, Rowan and Weldon, the other cranky islanders.

In New Leaf and the games that succeed afterwards, O'Hare is a smug villager, meaning he will come off as a gentlemen and polite. Smug villagers seem to be a mix between the jock and lazy personalities, and are kind, lively but can come off as conceited. Smug villagers cannot be a starter villager, and can only move in after the player becomes mayor (in New Leaf) or after the first campsite visitor has been invited, which will always be a smug villager (in New Horizons). O'Hare will find it very easy to get along with lazy, normal, peppy, and other smug villagers. Cranky villagers, however, may be difficult for him to get along with.

As an islander in Animal Crossing, O'Hare has a favorite fruit and one he is allergic to. He is allergic to peaches and loves oranges, meaning giving him the former reduces the likelihood of him dropping Bells, and giving him the latter increases the likelihood of him dropping Bells.

    • O'Hare is the first former islander to wear an aloha tee as his default shirt in games where he is not an islander.
    • O'Hare appears on the boxart of Dòngwù Sēnlín, despite him not appearing at all in the game due to it being a port of the original Doubutsu no Mori, as that version lacks the Animal Island feature (and by extension, the islanders, including O'Hare). This also applies to Maelle.
