I'm really thinking that this policy should be reworked, considering the discussions above. :I'd just like to remind everyone that the reason we decided to poll the readership is because the main participants in the previous discussion (Mario, SuperHampster and myself) all had differing opinions on the matter. To refresh everyone's memory on the capitalization situation... all English-localized games in the main series use lowercase letters for almost all items in-game. However, all guides printed in North America use the capitalization style we are currently using... with the (half?) exception of the ACNL guide which lists the item names in all-caps (e.g. BLUE DRESSER). It does list "Blue Series" though as opposed to "blue series". Lastly, I would like to note that I have made quite an effort to correct capitalization issues as I've gone about my editing on the various furniture pages, so if we decide to make revisions to the policy I would like to have a bot make changes to the entire wiki using a master item list as a reference so that most of the spelling on the wiki will be properly formatted. I would also like this to be the last policy revision regarding capitalization as it's a bit ridiculous to go back and forth on this so many times. As an example... as I was moving the series pages to their new locations (e.g. Blue series to Blue Series) you can see in the revision history where the page actually started out at "Blue Series" but was moved in 2011. So this is an on-going issue that has not been resolved ''for over four years, '''at least!''''' My vote is in favor of the current policy only because I don't want to have to make a master item list of every item ever appearing in an Animal Crossing title so that we can properly apply the new policy. However if one of you is willing to create such a list I am willing to go along with whatever capitalization system you want. ;P [[File:Sunmarshsignature.png|link=User:Sunmarsh]] '''<small><span style="font-variant:small-caps">([[User_talk:Sunmarsh|<span style="color:#7B7B7B">talk</span>]])</span></small>''' 19:10, July 28, 2015 (EDT)

Based on internal staff discussion regarding recent user page edits, I'd like to propose that site policy be amended to create an exception to the rule that disallows removal of other users' messages. The exception being: Welcome messages and mass invites (e.g. "Invitation to Summer of Edits...") posted to one's own user talk page. I'd also like to add an additional bullet noting that user talk page discussions may be moved to an archive page at that user's own discretion, but this archive must be linked to from the user talk page. Further, a user should not archive official warnings or messages from staff members concerning their edits or behavior unless these discussions are one year or older (would be interested to hear thoughts on this time frame). What's the difference?[edit]

What's the difference between vandalism and spam? Thepokemonmaster (talk) 06:10, July 2, 2014 (EDT)

As defined on this policy page, vandalism is deliberately adding content that shouldn't be on a page to it (nonsense/gibberish is a common way of referring to that); adding offensive material or removing content from pages would also be considered vandalism. Spam is a form of vandalism, which, according to this page, is adding links to other sites, solely to advertise them or lead people to them. In practice, "spam" might be used to refer to more types of vandalism than just linking, though, like some of the "adding gibberish." -Sky (talk) 12:21, July 2, 2014 (EDT)

Why should furniture names be capitalzed when they aren't capitalzed in game??[edit]

Why should the names of furniture be capitalized in game when they aren't capitalized in-game? On most wikis about games they usually use the in-game capitalization. I don't get it! --108.40.165.47 18:58, August 24, 2014 (EDT)

It's kind of murky in this field, actually. In-game uses both lowercase, but official game guides have used both capitalization, so it isn't as clear cut as it seems. All arguments for each capitalization rules have its merits, but I'm going with policy for now rather than change everything. There are some arguments about this standard, even though it has been established already. Something isn't right about this system we have here. :/ Mario Signature.png 19:58, August 24, 2014 (EDT)

Not exactly agreeing with capitalization policy[edit]

I'm really thinking that this policy should be reworked, considering the discussions above. Especially since this is determined by a poll which most likely isn't appropriately representative of Nookipedia's readers or editors. All in all, determining how the capitalization policy spells out via a poll is far from ideal, and I'd rather we have some discussion, not a poll with sampling bias. Support Support for the welcome and mass invite exceptions, and for most of the archive rules. However, I'm not so sure on your point about official warnings/messages. I think it's fine to archive these as long as you're archiving a large amount of other messages at the same time. If someone creates an archive just for the warning(s), then maybe that's not playing fair, but otherwise I have no issues with it. Support Support for the welcome/mass invite messages, Oppose Oppose for warning archival. Even if the warning is placed in an archive, this does not necessarily mean that they shouldn't be referenced, and it would be quite of an unfortunate experience if a user wanted to archive in less than a year, but couldn't due to warnings and reminders on their talk page. -- PanchamBro (talkcontributions) 14:55, February 19, 2022 (EST)
Neutral Neutral Not ready to render a full decision yet, but I agree with PanchamBro regarding the issue of warnings holding up page archival. I think a possible compromise would be to have the warning template add a category (such as Users with Warnings), that way all past warnings could be easily found through the category even if they have been archived. --Jake (talk) 16:09, February 19, 2022 (EST)

Copying from other websites[edit]

There is now a clear statement in the policy that plagiarizing other websites is not allowed. HylianAngel (talk) 20:07, October 3, 2022 (EDT)

We don't have anything on this policy page about copying text directly from other wikis, websites, sources etc.. As this goes against copyright and is highly frowned upon, should we add a new point about this (copying text) to the policy? Drago (talk) Drago PC Villager Icon.png 13:53, September 1, 2022 (EDT)

Support Support Unless it's for quoting someone with a citation provided (e.g. a gaming review), copying the direct text should not be permitable. -- PanchamBro (talkcontributions) 13:56, September 1, 2022 (EDT)
